What is İdman TV?

İdman TV is an Azerbaijani sports television channel publishing at idmantv.az. Its own site describes it as ““Azərbaycan Televiziya və Radio Verilişləri” Qapalı Səhmdar Cəmiyyətinin tabeliyində yaradılan, Azərbaycanın ilk idman kanalı” — created under the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-Stock Company, and the first sports channel in Azerbaijan.[1][2] Those are the channel's characterisations of itself.

The parent is identifiable from the parent's own pages and not only from the channel's. The site of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting company carries the legal person in its footer as “AZƏRBAYCAN TELEVİZİYA VƏ RADİO VERİLİŞLƏRİ” QAPALI SƏHMDAR CƏMİYYƏTİ, and lists İdman TV among its channels in its own navigation.[3]

Azerbaijani media entities are recorded in the Media Reyestri, which the Media Agentliyi describes as an “elektron informasiya ehtiyatıdır”, an electronic information resource held ““Media haqqında” Azərbaycan Respublikası Qanununun 73.1-ci maddəsinə əsasən”, under article 73.1 of the Law on Media, systematising data on media entities, their editorial offices and journalists.[4] Reporters Without Borders ranks Azerbaijan 171st of 180 in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index with a score of 23.95, and its media-landscape text opens: “Virtually the entire media sector is under official control, and state-owned television is the most popular information source.” That is RSF's published characterisation, quoted and attributed.[5]

What does İdman TV cover?

The channel's own site navigation divides its output by sport, and the sections it shows are futbol, voleybol, basketbol, güləş, boks, cüdo, Formula 1 and gimnastika — football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, boxing, judo, Formula 1 and gymnastics.[1]

That is the channel's own section structure rather than a rights document. No rights instrument, term, expiry date or counterparty for any of the competitions it covers was retrieved for this page, and nothing about the value or duration of any arrangement is inferred from the section list.[1][2]

No dedicated live-broadcast section appeared in the navigation retrieved, and the about page describes the channel's relationship to its parent rather than its schedule, so what is documented here is the range of sports the channel itself lists and no more.[2]

How large is İdman TV's audience?

No audited television audience measurement for İdman TV could be retrieved for this page, and no recognised Azerbaijani measurement currency publishing ratings for the channel was found. Traffic estimators are not audited measurement and no estimate from one is given here.

The channel publishes no audience figure of its own on the pages retrieved: neither its front page nor its about page gives a reach, a share or a ratings number.[1][2] Nor does the parent company's site publish one for it.[3]

The only third-party statement about the reach of Azerbaijani television retrieved here is RSF's sentence that “state-owned television is the most popular information source”, which is quoted as published, is a statement about a category rather than a figure for any channel, and does not name İdman TV.[5]

Since when has İdman TV existed?

No founding or launch date for İdman TV could be retrieved from either the channel's own site or its parent's. The about page states the channel's relationship to the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting company and carries the claim “Azərbaycanın ilk idman kanalı”, and gives no year.[2] The front page carries no founding line.[1] The parent's own pages list the channel without dating its launch.[3]

What the channel's site does carry is a current copyright line, “Copyright © 2026 Bütün hüquqlar qorunur”. That fixes the pages read here to 2026 and is not a statement of when broadcasting began.[1] Created, launched and renamed are separate dates and none of them is established here.

The statutory register in which Azerbaijani media entities are now recorded is newer than any of them: the Media Reyestri was established under article 73.1 of the Law on Media.[4]

Why does İdman TV matter in Azerbaijan's sport?

Its position on this list is structural rather than measured. It is a sport-only television channel operating under the state television and radio company, which both its own site and the parent's own pages state, so the sport it carries sits inside that broadcasting group rather than in a commercial schedule.[1][3]

Its section list is the documented record of what it covers, and it runs football alongside wrestling, boxing and judo, with Formula 1, volleyball, basketball and gymnastics beside them.[1] Where a channel's coverage is stated only in its own navigation, as this one's is, the listing is reported as the channel's own.

Both the claim to be the country's first sports channel and the account of the parent relationship are the channel's own statements, attributed rather than adopted, and no independent source carrying either was retrieved for this page.[1][2] RSF's published sentences about the Azerbaijani media sector are quoted above and nothing is inferred from them about this channel.[5]
