What is Crítica?
Crítica is a Panamanian daily newspaper. The footer of its sports section reads: “Todos los derechos reservados Editora Panamá América S.A. - Ciudad de Panamá - Panamá 2026.”[1] The same footer appears on the sports section of Panamá América, which is its sister title.[5]
Its site's own description reads: “Diario de circulación nacional con Noticias y Novedades de Panama y el Mundo. Política, Economía, Deportes, Sucesos, Opinión y mucho mas.” That is the outlet's description of itself. Its menu lists Sucesos, Nacional, Show, Deportes, Mundo, Insólitas, Multimedia, Impreso and a premium-content section.[2]
No shareholder register for Editora Panamá América S.A. was retrieved, and the company's own site could not be fetched.
Court record. The Órgano Judicial reported on 24 October 2023 that the Tribunal Superior de Liquidación de Causas Penales del Primer Distrito Judicial de Panamá had confirmed, in a second-instance judgment, sentencia mixta no. 02 of 17 July 2023 of the Juzgado Segundo Liquidador de Causas Penales, in the case it names “New Business”, and stated: “También el Tribunal ordenó la disolución de dos sociedades inmobiliarias, y el comiso a favor del Estado de las acciones de una editorial, la administración y sus instalaciones (bienes muebles e inmuebles).” The release does not name the publisher.[8]
La Prensa reported on 27 April 2026 that the judgment ordered the forfeiture to the State of all the shares of Editora Panamá América, S.A. (Epasa), that it became final on 4 March 2024, and that “Sobre la decisión judicial que pesa sobre las acciones de Epasa, todavía no se ha realizado la inscripción ante el Registro Público.” Those are La Prensa's statements.[9]
What does Crítica cover?
As retrieved on 26 September 2026, Crítica's sports section carried an item dated 26 September on Kylian Mbappé's injuries, and items dated 25 September on Panama's best performance at the Juegos Suramericanos, a gold medal and record for Diddier Rodríguez, a surfing gold, golds for Gianna Woodruff and Chamar Chambers, Panama's draw with India and its scorer Omar Valencia, a win for Panama's under-17 team in Spain, the MLB wild-card series and Panamanian players in winter baseball. Items dated 24 September covered Panama's entry at the road cycling world championships and LPF players seeking a place on the Asian tour.[1]
National team. On Friday 25 September 2026 Crítica published “Panamá no lució bien y empata ante India 1-1”, under the byline of Joel Isaac González, reporting the friendly at the Estadio Sree Kanteerava in Bangalore, with India's goal in the 41st minute and Omar Valencia's equaliser for Panama in the 68th.[3]
Domestic football. On 24 September 2026, under the byline Redacción Crítica, it reported that the senior national team “cuenta con dos representantes de la Liga Panameña de Fútbol (LPF)” for its three-match preparation tour of Asia, the goalkeeper Marcos De León of Sporting San Miguelito and the midfielder Daivis Murillo of CD Plaza Amador, both clubs of the domestic league.[7]
Athletics. On 25 September 2026, under the byline of Joel Isaac González, it reported that Diddier Rodríguez won “la medalla de oro de los 3 mil metros con obstáculos del atletismo de los Juegos Deportivos Suramericanos Santa Fe 2026 e imponiendo un récord de la competencia”, in 8:31.89, and named the Brazilian and Colombian athletes who took silver and bronze.[6]
The section covers football, athletics, surfing, baseball and cycling.[1]
How large is Crítica's audience?
No audited readership survey, circulation audit or web audit for Crítica was retrieved. Editora Panamá América's advertising page could not be retrieved, and none of the Crítica pages retrieved prints a circulation or traffic figure.[2]
The only statement of national standing retrieved is Reporters Without Borders', which names Crítica among “The main newspapers” of Panama.[4] That is a monitor's description, not an audience figure.
Since when has Crítica existed?
No founding date for Crítica was found on the outlet's own site or on the pages of its sister title Panamá América that were retrieved.[2][5]
The footer of 2026 names Editora Panamá América S.A. as the rights holder, and the same wording appears on Panamá América's sports section on 26 September 2026.[1][5] That dates the publisher's rights notice, not the title.
Why does Crítica matter in Panama's sport?
Crítica publishes a daily sports section that on 25 September 2026 reported Panama's friendly in India and the country's results at the Juegos Suramericanos Santa Fe 2026.[1][3] It shares its publisher with Panamá América, whose sports section published on the same days.[5]
Reporters Without Borders names “La Prensa, Panamá América, Crítica, Crítica Libre, La Crónica” as “The main newspapers” of Panama, and states that they “are concentrated in Panama City, the capital”. RSF also states: “Historically, the major Panamanian media have been owned by members of the country's economic elite.”[4] Those are the monitor's statements.
