What is Blu Radio?

Blu Radio is a Colombian talk radio network and news site. Its own site records the publishing organisation as Caracol Televisión S.A. and describes its output as news from Colombia and abroad covering sport, current affairs, technology, politics and football, with a Bogotá regional section alongside the national one.[1]

It sits inside the Valorem group: Caracol Televisión's corporate site lists Blu Radio among its brands alongside Noticias Caracol, Gol Caracol, La Kalle and DiTu, and Valorem's own company page for Caracol Televisión states that the network operates Blu Radio.[2] [3]

The Colombian outlet las2orillas reported that the station launched in September 2012 under Alejandro Santo Domingo through the family holding company, after the group's earlier radio assets had passed to a Spanish buyer.[4] The station's own site carries a Bogotá regional section alongside its national output, and the outlet’s own site publishes no list of frequencies.[1]

What does Blu Radio cover?

The Deportes desk is split into fútbol colombiano, fútbol and ciclismo, and the desk describes its own range as news, analysis and information on football, cycling, baseball, basketball and live results.[5]

Day-to-day the domestic beat is the Liga BetPlay, including the women's league knockout rounds, together with the football of Colombian players abroad and CONMEBOL club competition.[5] The separate cycling section means the station keeps Grand Tour and domestic road coverage running as a standing desk rather than a seasonal add-on, which matters in a country whose international results outside football are concentrated in the sport.[5]

The station's own front page describes its range as news from Colombia and abroad on sport, current affairs, technology, politics and football, so sport sits inside a general news operation rather than in a dedicated sports station.[1]

What are Blu Radio's reach and standing?

Valorem reports more than 1.9 million listeners on the ECAR 2-2025 measurement and describes Blu Radio as Colombia's most-listened-to talk station; the figure is the owner's and the measurement is named.[3]

An independent ordering exists. Citing ECAR audience measurement, las2orillas placed Blu Radio first among Colombian news and talk stations at close to 2 million listeners a month, ahead of Caracol Radio at 1.7 million and W Radio at 1.4 million, both of which belong to the Spanish group Prisa.[4] The report does not give the measurement date for those ECAR figures, so the ordering is cited without a year attached to it.

Caracol Televisión's corporate site places Blu Radio with Caracol Televisión and Noticias Caracol at the head of its list of most-consumed digital media in Colombia, without naming a measurement.[2] That statement covers three group outlets together rather than the station alone, and no independent digital audience figure for Blu Radio by itself could be retrieved for this page.

Since when has Blu Radio broadcast?

The station is recent by Colombian radio standards. Its launch in September 2012 rests on the las2orillas account, which frames it as the Santo Domingo group's re-entry into radio after the sale of its previous stations; that is a single secondary source and no primary document confirming the launch date was retrieved for this page.[4]

The publisher relationship is separately documented: the station's own site records Caracol Televisión S.A. as the publishing organisation, and both the network's corporate site and Valorem list Blu Radio as a group brand.[1] [2] [3] No source dating the first sports broadcast separately from the station's launch could be retrieved, and launched, acquired and rebranded are kept apart here as different questions.

The two stations the same report places behind it in the category, Caracol Radio and W Radio, both belong to the Spanish group Prisa, and the account frames Blu Radio's launch as the Colombian group's return to a market it had left.[4]

Why does Blu Radio matter in Colombian sport?

Radio is still where Colombian match commentary reaches listeners without a subscription, and Blu Radio is the station an independent ECAR-based ordering put at the head of the news and talk category.[4] Its standing cycling desk gives it continuous coverage of the sport in which Colombian riders have the longest international record.[5]

Ownership qualifies that independence: Blu Radio is published by Caracol Televisión S.A., and Caracol Televisión and El Espectador are Valorem companies, so citations to all three are citations to one owner.[2] [3] The competing chains are the Organización Ardila Lülle, which owns RCN Televisión and whose holding in Win Sports was reported at 50 per cent in 2015, and the Sarmiento Angulo organisation, which owns El Tiempo.[6] A reader counting Colombian sources on a Colombian athlete is therefore counting owners, not mastheads, and the station's own sports desk is one voice within the Valorem chain rather than a separate one.
