How do teams qualify?
Automatic places from the previous edition and rankings, plus regional qualifiers that have carried the tournament far beyond the Test nations — the USA's 2024 run announced the sport's newest frontier. Group stages feed the Super Eight and knockouts.[2] [3]
Why does it matter?
T20 is cricket's global language — the World Cup its biggest short-form prize, its audiences among the largest in world sport, and its every edition a rankings and records engine (2026 broke the tournament's record books wholesale).[3] [4]
