What is the ICC?
The International Cricket Council is the world governing body of cricket — founded at Lord's in 1909 as the Imperial Cricket Conference, headquartered today in Dubai, with 108 members: twelve full (Test) nations and 96 associates.[1] [2]
What does the ICC govern?
The international calendar and its championships — the ODI and T20 World Cups, World Test Championship, Champions Trophy and the women's events; team and player rankings; match officials, anti-corruption and playing conditions (the laws themselves remain with the MCC); and cricket's Olympic entry at LA28.[2] [3]
Who leads it?
Chair Jay Shah of India, in office since December 2024 — the former BCCI secretary, at the head of a governance in which India's board is the sport's financial center of gravity.[2] [4]
Why does the ICC matter?
Rankings, caps, World Cup records and match officiating all run through the ICC — the official documentation of international cricket for over a century.[2] [3]
