What is World Lacrosse?

World Lacrosse is the sport's IOC-recognized international federation — more than 90 national members, guardian of the sixes format, and the body that returned lacrosse to the Olympic program for the first time since 1908.[1] [2]

What does it govern?

The rules across field, box and sixes; the World Championships (men's, women's, box and sixes) and age-group worlds; world rankings; and Olympic qualification, with the 2027 Sixes Championships serving as the primary LA28 qualifier.[2] [3]

Why does it matter?

Beyond the credentials — rankings, world titles, Olympic berths — World Lacrosse is notable for recognizing the Haudenosaunee Nationals as a member nation, making lacrosse the only sport where an Indigenous confederacy competes internationally as itself.[2] [4]
