What is the RFEJYDA?

The Real Federación Española de Judo y Deportes Asociados (RFEJYDA) is the national judo federation of Spain. Article 1 of its statutes defines it as “una Entidad privada de naturaleza asociativa, duración indefinida y de utilidad pública, sin ánimo de lucro”, a private non-profit association of public utility.[4]

Its statutes give it statewide competence “con carácter exclusivo y único del JUDO, y de los Deportes Asociados”, which they name as “JIU-JITSU, AIKIDO, KENDO, WUSHU y DEFENSA PERSONAL”.[4] The International Judo Federation lists it in English as the “Royal Spanish Judo Federation”.[1]

What does the RFEJYDA govern or do?

Its statutes assign it “el gobierno, administración, gestión, organización y reglamentación del Judo” and of the associated sports.[4] Under the oversight of the Consejo Superior de Deportes it qualifies and organises official non-professional competitions at state level.[4]

It selects national teams: the statutes charge it with choosing “las personas deportistas que hayan de integrar las selecciones españolas”.[4] It issues the licences required to take part in official state and international competitions, which are held “para cada año natural”.[4] Its site publishes its statutes and regulations alongside circulars, rankings, and health and anti-doping material.[6]

When was the RFEJYDA founded and where is it based?

The statutes state that the federation “tiene su sede en Madrid y su domicilio social en la calle de Ferraz, número 16”.[4] The IJF lists its address as “Ferraz 16-7 Izq.”, 28008 Madrid.[1]

The statutes in force, published as “Estatutos 2025”, carry a note that the amendment of Article 49 was ratified by the Comisión Directiva of the Consejo Superior de Deportes “en su sesión del día 7 de octubre de 2025”; the note authorises their entry in the Registro Estatal de Entidades Deportivas and is signed on 4 November 2025 by the head of that register.[4]

How is the RFEJYDA recognised?

International federations. Article 1 of its statutes states that it is affiliated to “la Federación Internacional de Judo (IJF) y a la Unión Europea de Judo (EJU)”.[4] The International Judo Federation lists the “Royal Spanish Judo Federation” as its national federation for Spain, with Juan Carlos Barcos as president.[1]

European Judo Union. The EJU’s list of member federations includes the “National Judo Federation of Spain”.[2]

Spanish state. Its statutes carry the ratification of the Consejo Superior de Deportes and the authorisation of their entry in the Registro Estatal de Entidades Deportivas.[4] The federation’s site shows the CSD logo among its sponsors (“Patrocinadores”) and the Comité Olímpico Español among its collaborators (“Colaboradores”).[3]

What does the RFEJYDA organise?

Championships of Spain. The federation’s site carries 2026 Campeonatos de España in judo for the infantil category and in kata for the alevín, infantil and cadete categories, and the XL edition of the Campeonato de España of wushu.[3]

Associated sports. It runs separate sections for aikido, jiu-jitsu, wushu, kendo and self-defence, the disciplines its statutes assign to it.[3][4]

Who are its members?

Article 2 of the statutes states that the federation is made up of “las Federaciones de ámbito autonómico”, together with “los Clubes, los Deportistas, los Jueces-Árbitros y los Profesores-Entrenadores”.[4]

The federation’s list of regional federations runs from the Federación Andaluza de Judo y Deportes Asociados and the Federación Catalana de Judo to the Federación Vasca de Judo y Deportes Asociados and the federations of Ceuta and Melilla.[5]
