What it is

Polski Związek Pływacki governs swimming in Poland. The year 1922 appears on the federation's emblem as prescribed by its own statute, though the statute contains no separate founding clause. Otylia Jędrzejczak, the 2004 Olympic 200m butterfly champion, was elected president for the 2024-2028 term.[1] [2]

How the national team is selected

Polish swimming publishes what is probably the most legible selection instrument of any federation on this site.

The standing squad is defined by an objective points score: a result of 850 World Aquatics points or better in a 50m pool within a stated window, reduced to 820 for younger athletes on domestic camps. The head coach makes the final call on individual training activities, but the entry threshold is a number.[3]

Championship selection is tighter still. For the 2026 European Championships the federation published A and B minima for all eighteen individual events in both sexes, derived by a stated formula — the A standard 1% slower than the preceding World Championship standard, the B standard 2% slower, with the B route open only to athletes born from 2007. World Championship finalists qualify automatically. A maximum of four swimmers per event may be selected off the qualifying-window ranking, and B-standard swimmers qualify only if fewer than four have hit the A. Two named meets constitute the qualifying window.[4]

One clause is worth noting because it is unusual: the final team requires approval by the federation board and by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. Selection to a Polish national swimming team is therefore a two-stage act with a state confirmation step.[4]

Sporting classes

Polish swimming publishes its own classification tables for 2025-2028, running from the international master class down, with separate norms for 25m and 50m pools and a second, placing-based route. One caveat printed in the tables matters if a class is being cited as a current credential: a sporting class remains valid only to the end of the following calendar year. More on these systems.[5]
