What is ITTF Americas?

ITTF Americas is the continental federation for table tennis in the Americas within the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The ITTF Constitution, in the edition effective from 3 May 2026, states that “The ITTF recognises Continental Federations as continental-level organisations responsible for the promotion, organisation, and development of Table Tennis within their respective continents, subject to this Constitution”, adds that they “are autonomous legal entities distinct from the ITTF”, and provides for “one Continental Federation for each of the following continents: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.”[1] The Constitution does not give the bodies’ own names; the federation’s website is titled “ITTF AMERICAS”, and USA Table Tennis refers to it as the “Pan American Table Tennis Federation (ITTF-Americas)”.[2][3]

The federation covers one sport, table tennis, in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and team competitions, as its senior championship programme shows: the 2025 Pan American Championships contested men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles and men’s and women’s team events.[3] Its legal form and statutes could not be established: the federation’s website renders only through a script and returned no readable content, and the ITTF documents retrieved do not reproduce its statutes.[2]

What does ITTF Americas govern or do?

The federation writes no rules of the game; the laws of table tennis and the ITTF’s regulations for international competitions apply. Within the ITTF’s structure a continental federation has defined rights and duties. Among its rights, Article 30.1 of the 2026 Constitution gives it the right “to have its championship title competition recognised as the sole continental title championships for that continent”; among its obligations, Article 30.2 requires it “to organise Table Tennis competitions in its continent”, alongside keeping its membership open to the ITTF’s members in the continent and complying with the Constitution.[1] The ITTF Statutes repeat the right to a sole continental title championship in Article 1.21.1.4.[5]

The federation’s championship carries weight in the ITTF’s world events. The ITTF listed the “ITTF Pan American Championships 2025 (Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA, 12-19 October 2025)” as the qualifying event for teams from the Americas at the 2026 World Team Championships in London, within a system in which “52 teams qualify through continental championships”.[4] Anti-doping and world rankings sit with the ITTF; no document retrieved names ITTF Americas as a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code in its own right.

When was ITTF Americas founded and where is it based?

No founding date for ITTF Americas could be confirmed from a retrievable primary source, and no dated renaming could be established. The federation’s own site, at americas.ittf.com, returned no readable content, and the domain ittfamericas.com could not be retrieved.[2] The ITTF Constitution and Statutes set out how continental federations affiliate but give no founding dates for them.[1][5]

The championship has a numbered history of its own: USA Table Tennis called the 2025 edition the 8th, but the year of the first edition could not be confirmed from an ITTF or ITTF Americas document; that date would belong to the championship, not to the federation.[3]

The federation’s seat and legal address could not be established from the documents retrieved. Article 31.3 of the ITTF Constitution provides that “If any inconsistency arises between the statutes of a Continental Federation and the ITTF Constitution, the Constitution will prevail to the extent of that inconsistency”, so whatever the federation’s own statutes provide sits beneath the world federation’s text.[1]

How is ITTF Americas recognised?

The recognising instrument is the ITTF Constitution, in the edition effective from 3 May 2026. Article 28.1 recognises continental federations as “continental-level organisations responsible for the promotion, organisation, and development of Table Tennis within their respective continents, subject to this Constitution”, and Article 28.2 provides for one continental federation for each continent, the Americas among them.[1] Article 29 makes the status an affiliation: continental federations affiliate on criteria set by the ITTF Council, renew their affiliation every four years, in the year after the Olympic Games, and do so by entering a continental agreement with the ITTF, whose aims include linking continental events to the ITTF’s world title events and access to development funding.[1] Under Article 11.2, each continental federation must have at least one member on the ITTF Executive Board.[1]

Olympic recognition belongs to the world body. Article 1.3 of the Constitution states that “The ITTF is the sole international governing body of Table Tennis, as recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee.”[1] ITTF Americas holds no IOC recognition of its own. Table tennis is contested at the Pan American Games of Panam Sports; the Panam Sports qualification system for table tennis at Lima 2027, and any Panam Sports list naming the federation among recognised continental confederations, could not be retrieved.

What does ITTF Americas organise?

The federation’s senior championship is the ITTF Pan American Championships. USA Table Tennis described the 2025 edition, at the Rock Hill Sports and Events Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina, from 12 to 19 October 2025, as the 8th edition and the first held in the United States, held under the auspices of the Pan American Table Tennis Federation and the ITTF, with seven events in a single-elimination format.[3] The ITTF listed it as the qualifying event for the Americas at the 2026 World Team Championships in London; eight men’s and eight women’s teams from the Americas qualified.[4]

The ITTF Americas president reports the championships to the ITTF Continental Council. Its minutes record the 2022 Pan American Championships and the federation’s general meeting “held in Chile”, the 2023 continental championships “held in Havana, Cuba, qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”, and the 2024 Pan American Championships “held in El Salvador”, alongside the Pan American Cup and the youth, Hopes, U11 and U13 championships held in the Americas.[6][7][8] No document from the federation or the ITTF setting the host and dates of a 2026 edition could be retrieved by 4 October 2026.

Who are its members?

The members are the ITTF member associations of the Americas. Article 30.2 of the ITTF Constitution obliges each continental federation to keep its membership open to the ITTF’s members in its continent.[1] The ITTF Statutes tie continental representation to the size of each continent’s membership, providing that the number of continental representatives is proportionate to the number of member associations (Article 1.54.4.1).[5] No member count from the federation or from the ITTF for the Americas could be retrieved; the federation’s own member list could not be read.

The associations whose teams qualified through the 2025 Pan American Championships for the 2026 World Team Championships show part of the membership: in the men’s event Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United States, Guatemala and Chile, and in the women’s event Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United States, Argentina and Guatemala.[4] USA Table Tennis, the national federation of the United States, hosted the 2025 championships.[3] The Continental Council minutes place the 2022, 2023 and 2024 championships in Chile, Cuba and El Salvador.[6][7][8]
