What is the IBJJF?

The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation is the sport's principal championship organization — built by Carlos Gracie Jr. of Gracie Barra out of the Brazilian confederation he founded in 1994 — running the calendar that defines competitive BJJ, from the Mundials down.[1][2]

What does the IBJJF run?

The World Championship, No-Gi Worlds, Pan Championship, European Championship and Brasileiro; the season Grand Prix and open circuit; the published athlete ranking system; referee certification; and the black-belt registry — the closest thing BJJ has to an official credential database.[2][3]

Why does the IBJJF matter?

Its titles are the sport's canon and its registry the sport's proof of rank — when a jiu-jitsu career needs documenting, IBJJF results, rankings and certification are the record cited.[2][3]
