What is the FVKD?

The Federación Venezolana de Karate Do (FVKD) is the national federation for karate in Venezuela. Its site presents it with the line “Disciplina, excelencia y evolución: el ente rector del karate do venezolano” — the governing body of Venezuelan karate do.[1] The Panamerican Karate Federation lists it, under the country code VEN, as the “FEDERACION VENEZOLANA DE KARATE DO”, with Miguel Obando as president.[9]

The Comité Olímpico Venezolano also lists the federation with Miguel Obando as president and @fevekaratedo_oficial as its contact handle.[11] The federation’s site carries the logos of the Instituto Nacional de Deportes (IND), the COV, the World Karate Federation and the Panamerican Karate Federation, alongside regional karate bodies abbreviated CCONDEKA, CCCK and CSK.[1] It covers the competitive divisions its rankings name: juvenile and senior, master, and para-karate.[4]

What does the FVKD govern or do?

Rankings. The federation publishes national rankings in three divisions — Juvenil and Senior, Master, and Para-Karate — which it presents as the place to “Conoce a los mejores atletas del país y sus puntajes oficiales”, the country’s official scores.[4]

Grades. It certifies dan grades. In March 2026 it reported homologating 100 karatekas as part of its “proyecto de certificación de grados de DAN”, with sessions on 22, 28 and 29 March in Lara, Trujillo and Zulia states, conducted with senior instructors.[6] It reported a first round of homologations in January 2026.[5]

Registration and officials. Its board includes a secretary for athlete registration (fichaje) and representatives of athletes, coaches and referees, each with an alternate.[2]

Selections. It selects and sends the Venezuelan national karate team to continental and regional events, as with a 52-athlete delegation to the Panamerican championship of May 2026.[7]

When was the FVKD founded and where is it based?

The federation’s board page lists the officers elected for the 2025–2029 term, the current mandate of its leadership.[2]

The federation gives its address as the Instituto Nacional de Deportes, Avenida Teherán, Caracas, Distrito Capital.[1] The Panamerican Karate Federation’s list places it at “I.N.D La Vega, Caracas” and gives the contact addresses [email protected] and [email protected].[9]

The 2025–2029 board is headed by Miguel A. Obando G. as president, with Jaime Noguera as general secretary and Luis L. Olivero F. as treasurer, and further secretaries for registration, public relations and inter-institutional relations. A five-member Consejo de Honor and a six-member Consejo Contralor sit beside the board.[2]

How is the FVKD recognised?

Continental body. The Panamerican Karate Federation includes the Federación Venezolana de Karate Do in its list of affiliated countries, naming Miguel Obando as president — the same president the federation’s own board page lists.[9][2] When the national team travelled to the Panamerican championship in May 2026, the federation reported that its president would also attend the assembly of the continental body, which it called the “Panamericana de la disciplina”.[7]

World body. The World Karate Federation states that it has 201 member federations, grouped in five continental federations, among them the Panamerican Karate Federation.[10] The FVKD’s site displays the WKF’s logo among those of the bodies it is linked with.[1]

COV. The Comité Olímpico Venezolano includes the Federación Venezolana de Karate Do in its directory of national federations.[11]

Venezuelan state. The federation displays the Instituto Nacional de Deportes among its affiliations, and its published address is the IND’s Caracas premises.[1]

What does the FVKD organise?

National championships. The federation’s national-events page carries the 2026 Campeonato Nacional Juvenil, Adulto y Master, with registrations closed and an official bulletin.[3] Its 2026 news also reported a national qualifier held with the IV Copa Francisco de Miranda in early 2026, and state qualification for the 2026 Juegos Nacionales Juveniles.[5]

National teams. The national team travelled with 52 athletes, accompanied by the federation’s president, to the “XXXIX Campeonato Panamericano Senior y Sub-21” in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, held 28–31 May 2026.[7] The federation reported on 17 April 2026 that, at a qualifying championship in Santo Domingo running to 19 April and awarding “un total de 144 cupos”, Venezuelan karate had secured “siete plazas” for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, which it said would be held in the Dominican Republic from 24 July to 8 August.[8] The federation also reported preparations for the 2026 South American Youth Games.[5]

Who are its members?

The federation’s activity is organised by state. Its March 2026 dan-grade certifications were held in Lara, Trujillo and Zulia,[6] and its 2026 news reported Carabobo qualifying ten karatekas for the Juegos Nacionales Juveniles 2026.[5]

Athletes, coaches and referees each have representatives on the board: the 2025–2029 board seats a representative of athletes, one of coaches and one of referees, each with an alternate, and a secretary responsible for registration (Sec. Fichaje).[2] The national rankings cover competitors in the juvenile and senior, master and para-karate divisions.[4] Dan-grade certification is a further point of contact with practitioners: the federation reported 100 karatekas homologated in March 2026 alone.[6]

The federation is itself a member body. The Panamerican Karate Federation lists it among its affiliated countries, and the World Karate Federation, to which the continental federation belongs, counts 201 member federations in all.[9][10]
