What is the FKF?

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is the national football association of Kenya. FIFA lists it under that name as its member association for Kenya, in the CAF confederation, with its website at footballkenya.org.[1] The 2017 text of its constitution, published on the federation’s elections site, describes it as “an organization of an associative nature registered in Kenya”, registered under the Sports Act No. 25 of 2013 as a national sports organisation and formed for an unlimited period.[4]

What does the FKF govern or do?

The 2017 constitution’s first objectives are “to improve the game of football constantly and promote, regulate and control it throughout the territory of Kenya”, “to organise competitions in Association Football in all its forms at national level”, and “to draw up regulations and provisions and ensure their enforcement”.[4]

The federation is responsible for Kenya’s national teams; CAF lists the coaches of the men’s and women’s teams under the association.[3]

When was the FKF founded and where is it based?

The 2017 FKF constitution states: “The headquarters of the Federation are in Nairobi, Kenya.” A move requires a resolution of the General Assembly.[4] CAF gives the address as Willmary Garden Estate, Nairobi.[3]

CAF’s member page records 1960 as the year the association was created and as the year of its FIFA affiliation, and 1968 as the year of its CAF affiliation.[3] Its preamble refers to a 2015 General Assembly resolution to review the constitution.[4]

How is the FKF recognised?

FIFA. FIFA’s member-association page lists Football Kenya Federation as its member for Kenya, with Hussein Mohammed as president.[1] The 2017 constitution states: “Football Kenya Federation is a member of FIFA, CAF and CECAFA.”[4]

CAF. CAF’s directory of member associations lists Kenya in its CECAFA zone.[2] CAF’s page on the association names Hussein Mohammed as president and Dennis Gicheru Wanjiru as acting general secretary.[3]

What does the FKF organise?

Article 79 of the 2017 constitution lists the federation’s official competitions: the Premier League, the National Super League, National Division One, the Women Premier League, Women Division 1, the FKF Cup, the FKF Women’s Cup and other competitions.[4]

Who are its members?

Article 11 of the 2017 constitution names the members: the clubs of the FKF Premier League, the FKF National Super League, the FKF National Division One League and the FKF Division Two League; “The 48 Counties of FKF”; and recognised associations of referees, coaches, players and women’s football.[4] Under the same text, the General Assembly “is composed of the following 94 delegates”: 18 from Premier League clubs, 10 each from the National Super League and National Division One, 48 county representatives, one each for referees, coaches and players, and five for women’s football.[4]
