What is Fedombal?
The Federación Dominicana de Baloncesto (Fedombal) is the body FIBA’s directory lists as its member for the Dominican Republic (DOM), with the regional affiliation Americas. FIBA lists Rafael Uribe as president and Jose Mercedes Acosta Rivas as secretary general.[1] The footer of its site shows logos whose alt texts read “Fiba Américas”, “Comité Olímpico Dominicano” and “Gobierno de la República Dominicana / Deportes”.[2] Its site groups its institutional pages under the headings Historia, Comisiones and Consejo de Directores.[5]
What does Fedombal govern or do?
The federation’s site lists a men’s and a women’s national team under the heading “Selecciones”.[2] Its news covers national tournaments for men and women, a Liga Nacional de Desarrollo Sub-22 for players under 22, and the national team’s fourth qualifying window (“Cuarta Ventana Clasificatoria”) for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.[2] Its section pages also report on provincial basketball associations and their assemblies.[4]
When was Fedombal founded and where is it based?
The federation’s history page states that in 1940 Máximo Llaverías Martí “fundó la Asociación Dominicana de Basketball”, which it calls the “embrión” of the later Federación Dominicana de Baloncesto, and that the institution was reorganised in 1960.[3]
The federation gives its address as the Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto, Santo Domingo, zona 6.[2] FIBA lists the Palacio de los Deportes in the Centro Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte, Zona 6, Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo.[1]
How is Fedombal recognised?
FIBA. FIBA’s list of national federations names the Federación Dominicana de Baloncesto as the member for the Dominican Republic, with the country code DOM, and gives its regional affiliation as Americas.[1]
Its own statement. The federation’s history page describes it as affiliated with the Federación Internacional de Baloncesto de Las Américas (FIBA Américas), “la cual le adscribe a la matriz FIBA” (which in turn attaches it to FIBA, the parent body).[3]
What does Fedombal organise?
The federation’s home page lists the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto under “Próximos Torneos”, and its news covers the Torneo Nacional de Basket Superior Femenino and the Liga Nacional de Desarrollo Sub-22.[2] Its news section reported on the 50 TBS Distrito 2026 and the TBS Femenino de Santo Domingo 2026, and carried the headline “Abadina felicita a Fedombal por sus cuatro medallas en los JCC Santo Domingo 2026”, JCC standing for the Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe.[5]
Who are its members?
The federation’s “Asociaciones” section reports on its provincial associations, among them the Asociación de Baloncesto de Puerto Plata, whose ordinary general assembly it covered.[4] Its history page traces the federation itself to the Asociación Dominicana de Basketball founded in 1940.[3] The federation is in turn the member body for the Dominican Republic in FIBA, which lists its officers.[1]
