What it is

The Federación Colombiana de Boxeo is based in Barranquilla and is described by the Colombian Olympic Committee as the institution charged with governing boxing in Colombia. It is a private body performing functions of public and social interest within the national sports system. Its founding year could not be verified and none is stated here.[1] [2]

Its president, a Barranquilla lawyer, was ratified unanimously by 17 leagues in 2021 and re-elected 23-0 by 23 leagues in June 2025 for an executive committee running from January 2026 to December 2029.[3]

Realignment and selection

The federation renounced its IBA and continental memberships irrevocably, announced on 18 March 2025 — not 20 March, the date on which the IOC confirmed boxing's restoration to the LA28 programme, with which it is frequently conflated. The Colombian Olympic Committee announced on 6 May 2025 that the federation had received World Boxing certification; World Boxing's own release naming Colombia is dated 22 May. One curiosity of record: the Olympic committee reported the certificate before World Boxing's public release, and the committee's own federation page still describes the federation's remit by reference to the defunct AIBA.[4] [5]

Selection. The federation convokes a pre-selection by numbered resolution — one such resolution called seventeen boxers from different regions to choose the teams for the Central American and South American Games — after which boxers report to a concentration in Bogotá to fight for a place, training at the sports ministry's high-performance centre. National championships are explicitly qualifying events. No written selection-criteria document was found; only the existence of the convocation resolutions is attested, and no Colombian term for the amateur licence could be sourced.[6]

Colombia's Olympic boxing record is five medals — one silver and four bronze, no gold.[7]

Professional boxing is separate, regulated by a national professional boxing commission working alongside the federation — and a bill filed in May 2026 would create a national directorate for professional boxing and enforce a structural and institutional separation between the amateur and professional codes.[8]
