What is FECHIDA?
The Federación Chilena de Deportes Acuáticos (FECHIDA), the Chilean Aquatic Sports Federation, is the national body for swimming and the other aquatic sports in Chile. It describes itself as “una entidad sin fines de lucro que agrupa a 25 asociaciones” — a non-profit entity grouping 25 associations.[3] Its current strategic plan covers 2022 to 2027 and is aimed at developing the aquatic sports in Chile and improving the federation’s management.[3]
What does FECHIDA govern or do?
FECHIDA’s site lists six areas: natación clásica (pool swimming), natación artística, aguas abiertas (open water), waterpolo, clavados (diving) and masters.[2] The federation states that it develops the aquatic disciplines and organises national championships, and that it manages the competition calendar, national rankings and its high-performance development programmes.[3]
When was FECHIDA founded and where is it based?
FECHIDA dates its origins to 20 January 1920, when, by its account, the Asociación de Natación y Waterpolo de Chile was founded in Valparaíso; it records that the association received legal personality in 1921 and adopted reformed statutes in 1924.[3] World Aquatics gives the federation’s address as Ramón Cruz 1176, office 208, in Ñuñoa, Santiago.[1]
How is FECHIDA recognised?
World Aquatics. World Aquatics’ directory of national federations, under the Americas, lists Chile’s member as the Federación Chilena de Deportes Acuáticos (FECHIDA), with the website fechida.cl and Claudia Nelyda Molkembuhr Sapunar as president. World Aquatics lists Chile among the national federations of the Americas.[1] FECHIDA’s own site names the same president, together with a vice-president, secretary and treasurer.[3]
What does FECHIDA organise?
FECHIDA states that it organises Chile’s national championships across its disciplines and sets the national competition calendar and rankings.[3] Its site covers competition in pool swimming, artistic swimming, open water, water polo, diving and masters, the six areas it presents as its disciplines.[2]
Who are its members?
FECHIDA states that it groups 25 associations.[3] It writes that “FECHIDA se compone de distintas Asociaciones a lo largo de todo Chile” — it is made up of associations throughout Chile — and directs swimmers who want to compete in federated events to find a club through their nearest association, publishing a contact list of the associations currently in force (October 2026).[4]
