What is the FEB?

The Federación Española de Baloncesto (FEB) is the national federation for basketball in Spain. Article 1 of its statutes defines it as an “entidad de naturaleza asociativa de derecho privado, sin ánimo de lucro y declarada de utilidad pública” — a private-law, non-profit association declared to be of public utility.[4] Its website describes itself as the “Web Oficial de la Federación Española de Baloncesto con noticias e información de las competiciones y de las selecciones nacionales del baloncesto español”.[3]

What does the FEB govern or do?

Under Article 6 of its statutes, the federation’s core functions are the government, administration, organisation and regulation of basketball and 3x3 basketball at national level, and the issue of licences to participants in official state-level competitions and championships.[4]

It runs Spain’s national teams: its site carries sections for the senior men’s and women’s teams (selección masculina and selección femenina).[3] It publishes its statutes, a general and competitions regulation and a governance regulation.[5]

When was the FEB founded and where is it based?

The federation is seated in Madrid. Article 5 of its statutes gives its domicile as “Madrid, Avda. de Burgos, 8-A-9º”, and FIBA’s directory lists the same building, “Avda de Burgos 8 A-9ª Planta -Edificio Bronce 28036 Madrid”.[4][2]

The statutes in force are published by the federation under the title “Estatutos (aprobados por CD CSD 12.11.2024)”, marking their approval on 12 November 2024 by the Comisión Directiva of the Consejo Superior de Deportes, Spain’s state sports council.[5]

How is the FEB recognised?

FIBA. FIBA’s list of national federations includes Spain (ESP), and its entry names the Federación Española de Baloncesto, with Elisa Aguilar Lopez as president, Gabriel Rodriguez De La Paz as secretary general and Europe as its region.[1][2]

Statutes. Article 4 states that the federation is “afiliada a la FIBA, a la que pertenece como miembro”, and binds it to FIBA’s statutes, regulations and decisions on international matters.[4]

Spanish state. The statutes record their approval by the FEB general assembly on 17 June 2024, and the federation publishes them under a title marking their approval by the Comisión Directiva of the Consejo Superior de Deportes on 12 November 2024.[4][5]

What does the FEB organise?

The federation’s site lists the competitions it runs: the LF Endesa women’s league, Primera FEB, Segunda FEB and Tercera FEB, with official results and statistics on its competitions portal.[3] Under Article 6 of its statutes it issues the licences for official state-level competitions and championships in basketball and 3x3 basketball.[4] It also selects and runs the senior men’s and women’s national teams.[3]

Who are its members?

Article 2 of the statutes lists the federation’s components: the autonomous-community federations, professional leagues, state-level entities, sports companies, clubs, athletes, coaches and referees taking part in official state-level competitions.[4]

Its page of “Federaciones Autonómicas” lists the regional federations of Andalucía, Aragón, Asturias, Baleares, Canarias, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Cataluña, Ceuta, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Melilla, Murcia, Navarra, La Rioja, País Vasco and the Comunidad Valenciana.[6]
