What it is

The Confederação Brasileira de Triathlon was founded on 14 June 1991. A statute reform in 2018 created an administrative council and an ethics council, and a further registered statute was published in 2026. It lists 26 state federations with live registration links, and maintains a sports tribunal, an ethics council, a fiscal council and an athletes' commission.[1] [2]

Sandro Bernardoni was elected on 18 December 2024 by 16 votes to 14 in a contested election, for the 2025-2028 cycle.[3]

How the national team is selected

Brazil publishes a full apparatus, and it is the most legible triathlon selection system in the region.

The master document is an annual Critérios de Seleção for international competitions, signed by the president. It sets out three access routes — direct access through specific events with pre-defined places, access through international rankings, and competitions reserved for confederation projects. Eligibility requires Brazilian nationality, current affiliation to the confederation, a valid medical clearance and completion of the world federation's anti-doping course, with ranking access checked on the Monday before the start list opens. First-time international entrants must additionally meet minimum swim and run times, verified by unbroken video with the athlete's face visible at start and finish.[4]

The same document sets athlete support tiers — from a top tier for Olympic-medal potential down through Olympic participation and regular international competition — reviewed every six months, and provides an appeal route with a three-day deadline. A separate document sets the Olympic selection criteria in strict priority order, with the qualification-ranking position that must accompany any direct criterion.[4] [5]

The document that records a selection is a numbered Nota Oficial of the technical directorate headed CONVOCAÇÃO, reciting the criteria applied and naming the athletes and officials, signed by the president. The full annual series is indexed publicly.[6]

The annual licence is the Registro Federativo, sold through the state federations and publicly checkable by the athlete's national identity number. It is a precondition of racing, of appearing in the national rankings and of world-championship qualification.[7] [8]

Brazil's best Olympic triathlon result is Miguel Hidalgo's 10th place at Paris 2024; he went on to win a World Triathlon Championship Series round in 2025, a first for Brazil.[9]
