What is the ACA?
Aquatics Canada Aquatiques (ACA) is the body through which Canada’s aquatic sports are affiliated internationally. Its site calls it the “Governing body for aquatics in Canada”.[2] It describes itself as “an excellence-driven organization, driving and encouraging elite performance by Canadian swimming, diving, water polo and artistic swimming athletes and the participation of Canadian coaches, officials and administrators internationally.”[3]
What does the ACA govern or do?
The ACA states that its role is “to advocate for and represent the Canadian aquatic sports to its national and international sport partners, primarily World Aquatics (“AQUA”), PanAm Aquatics (“PAQ”) and the Canadian Olympic Committee (“COC”).” It also supports Canadian aquatics teams at competitions and championships accredited by FINA, now World Aquatics, and PanAm Aquatics, and works to promote the aquatic sports in Canada.[3] Each sport is run by its own national sport organisation; for swimming that is Swimming Natation Canada, which states its mission as “We inspire Canadians through world leading performances to embrace a lifestyle of swimming, sport, fitness and health.”[4]
When was the ACA founded and where is it based?
World Aquatics gives the ACA’s address as 307 Rue Gilmour in Ottawa, the same address it lists for Swimming Natation Canada.[1] The ACA’s own site places it in Ottawa, Ontario, and names Florence Klein as its president.[2][3]
How is the ACA recognised?
World Aquatics. World Aquatics’ directory of national federations lists Canada’s member as Aquatics Canada Aquatiques, with four organisations beneath it: Water Polo Canada, Canada Artistic Swimming, Diving Plongeon Canada and Swimming Natation Canada. For Swimming Natation Canada it lists the website swimming.ca and Suzanne Owen as president.[1]
Panam Aquatics. The ACA names Panam Aquatics, together with World Aquatics and the Canadian Olympic Committee, as the partners to which it represents Canada’s aquatic sports.[3]
What does the ACA organise?
The ACA states that it supports Canadian aquatics teams at international competitions and championships accredited by FINA, now World Aquatics, and PanAm Aquatics, and that it represents the sports’ interests at international conventions.[3] Its site also carries an awards programme for the aquatic sports alongside pages for each of its four disciplines.[2] In swimming, the national team and domestic competition sit with Swimming Natation Canada, whose site carries Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic results and its club programmes.[4]
Who are its members?
The ACA states that it represents four aquatic sports — swimming, diving, water polo and artistic swimming — through their national sport organisations.[3] World Aquatics names those organisations as Swimming Natation Canada, Diving Plongeon Canada, Water Polo Canada and Canada Artistic Swimming, each with its own leadership and contact details (October 2026).[1]
