What is Youm7?

Youm7 (اليوم السابع) is an Egyptian newspaper and news website published at youm7.com.[1]

Media Ownership Monitor Egypt records the publisher as the Egyptian Company for Press, Publication and Advertising, which it states is owned by Egyptian Media Group, and traces control of that group through Eagle Capital Investment to the Egyptian General Intelligence Service. The profile notes that ownership data on the title is not fully public.[1] That is the monitoring project's account of the ownership chain, recorded here as its finding.

The same project's print section lists Youm7 among the Egyptian dailies whose ownership it attributes to Egyptian Media Group rather than to the state press authorities that hold Al-Ahram, Al-Akhbar and Al-Gomhuria.[2]

What does Youm7 cover?

The title publishes in Arabic and is read as a website as much as a newspaper, the monitoring project describing the online version as "one of Egypt's most popular website" without attaching a figure to that description.[1]

Youm7 is a general Arabic-language title with a sports section. Its sports reporting extends to the commercial side of the game: on 13 November 2023 it reported that the ON Time Sports channels had obtained the rights to broadcast Egypt's matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifying competition.[3] Broadcast-rights arrangements change on re-tender, and that report is dated to its day.

No statement by the publisher describing the scope of its sports desk could be retrieved, and no single day's edition is offered here as evidence of standing coverage.

Rights reporting of that kind dates quickly and has to be read with its date attached: a package reported in November 2023 covers a qualifying campaign that has since been played, and nothing in that report establishes who holds Egyptian rights now.[3]

For dated competition outcomes the governing bodies' records remain the citable source, such as CAF's statement of 21 December 2025 that "Egypt remain the most successful nation in AFCON history, having lifted the trophy seven times".[4]

How large is Youm7's audience?

Media Ownership Monitor Egypt's profile cites 2017 media reports that the newspaper distributed more than 10,000 copies per day, and states that its online version is "known to be one of Egypt's most popular website" without attaching a figure to that description.[1]

No audited circulation or digital-audience figure for the title could be retrieved. The 10,000-copy figure is a press report of 2017 carried by the monitoring project, not a certified audit, and it is nine years old at the date of this page.[1]

Traffic estimators are not audited measurement and none is cited here. The available category-level figures are survey estimates of Egyptian news consumption rather than measurements of this title.[2]

The same project records the television side of the Egyptian market without outlet-level audience shares either, citing only a survey estimate that 77 per cent of Egyptians use television to get news. No Egyptian measurement currency producing audited, outlet-level figures for print, television or online could be retrieved.[5]

Since when has Youm7 existed?

Media Ownership Monitor Egypt gives 2008 as the launch year, with the title appearing initially as a weekly, and records daily publication from 2011.[1]

Those are two dates and not one: the launch of the weekly and the conversion to a daily are separate events, and the incorporation of the publishing company is a third date the profile does not give.[1]

Why does Youm7 matter in Egypt's sport?

It carries the rights and administration side of Egyptian sport as news, which is where most of the datable material sits — its report of 13 November 2023 on the acquisition of Egypt's World Cup qualifying rights is an example.[3] See broadcast rights.

Its ownership chain, as the Media Ownership Monitor project traces it, is part of what a reader weighs: the project attributes control to Egyptian Media Group and, beyond it, to the General Intelligence Service, while noting that the ownership data is not fully public.[1]

That account is the monitoring project's finding and is reported here as such, with its retrieval date as the limit of what it establishes. For dated competition facts the confederation's records remain the source, as with CAF's statement of 21 December 2025 that Egypt have lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy seven times.[4]

Two dates therefore govern how the title is described here: 2008 for the weekly launch and 2011 for daily publication, both as the monitoring project gives them, and the retrieval date of the ownership profile for everything said about who controls it.[1] See sport in Egypt.
