What is TVMAX?

TVMAX is the sports brand of Televisora Nacional, S.A. (TVN). Its sports news is published on a path of the parent site, tvn-2.com/tvmax, whose footer reads “© Televisora Nacional, S.A 2024, todos los derechos reservados”. The section describes itself as “La mejor información de deportes en Panamá y el mundo. Noticias deportivas, videos, fotos, resultados en directo y transmisiones en vivo.” That is the outlet's own description.[1]

TVN's news page states that “TVN Noticias forma parte de Televisora Nacional de Panamá, Canal 2 (TVN Media www.tvnmedia.com)”.[3] TVN Media's own site lists television (TVN and TVMAX), radio (TVN Radio), digital, experiential marketing and talent representation among its divisions. It publishes no ownership detail and no audience figure.[4]

No shareholder register for Televisora Nacional, S.A. was retrieved. The most recent ownership statement retrieved is TVN's own, from 2016, and it concerns 1990; it is given under the founding question below.[2]

What does TVMAX cover?

As retrieved on 26 September 2026, the TVMAX section carried items on Panama's friendly against India, including the result, a news conference by the coach Thomas Christiansen and the six debutants in the line-up; a gold medal in bodyboard for Edwin Núñez at the Juegos Suramericanos Santa Fe 2026; a win for Panama's under-17 team against Australia; motor racing, with an item dated Friday 25 September 2026; and MLB and NBA news. The page names football, baseball, basketball, motor sport, athletics and karate among its subjects.[1]

Domestic football. TVMAX reported the final of the Torneo Clausura 2026 of the Liga Panameña de Fútbol on 23 May 2026. Its report states that Plaza Amador became champion “al vencer a Alianza FC en tiempos extras, por 3 goles a 2”, at the Estadio Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez.[6]

Domestic baseball. TVMAX covers the Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Mayor under its own path. On 13 May 2026 it reported, citing the Federación Panameña de Béisbol, an attendance of 124,549 across the 83rd championship: “Una afluencia de público de 124 mil 549 aficionados se registró durante la versión 83 del Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Mayor”. It reported that Bocas del Toro won the final series against Chiriquí.[7]

World Cup. Kantar IBOPE Media's tables for June and July 2026 list TVMAX broadcasts of 2026 FIFA World Cup matches, including Panama's, and a post-match programme.[5]

How large is TVMAX's audience?

Kantar IBOPE Media's monthly programme rankings for Panama are published on centrotv.org, with a household rating and a count of individuals for each programme. No figure for TVMAX as a channel, and no audited traffic figure for the tvn-2.com/tvmax path, was retrieved.[5]

June 2026. In the table for 1 to 30 June 2026, TVMAX's broadcast of the World Cup match Panama v Croatia is third, at a 17.66 household rating and 240,270 individuals, and its broadcast of Ghana v Panama is sixth, at 16.04 and 184,660 individuals. The table's first row is channel TM's CALLE 7 FINAL, at 19.54.[5]

July 2026. In the table for July 2026, TVMAX's highest row is its broadcast of the World Cup match listed as FUT COPA MUNDIAL ESP VS ARG-S, eighth at 14.28 and 204,400 individuals. Its post-World Cup programme, over three broadcasts, is sixteenth at 12.96.[5]

Those are one month's readings, for programmes, not channel shares.

Since when has TVMAX existed?

TVN's own history, published on 23 April 2016 under the headline “TVN se renueva a sus 54 años”, states: “El 23 de abril de 1962 Televisora Nacional de Panamá (Canal 2) realiza su primera emisión al aire”. It states that in 1990 “un grupo de jóvenes inversionistas fundan Grupo Nacional de Televisión S.A.”, which acquired the channel, and that in 2005 TVN decided “traspasar toda la programación de deportes a un canal hermano: TV Max (Canal 9)”.[2]

Those dates are TVN's own account; no second source for them was retrieved. The 2016 article does not name the members of the 1990 group.[2]

Why does TVMAX matter in Panama's sport?

TVMAX carried Panama's matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and two of them are ranked third and sixth in Kantar IBOPE Media's table for June 2026. The same matches were also carried by RPC, TM and TVN.[5] It reports the domestic football league's finals and the national baseball championship, and it reported the baseball federation's attendance count for 2026.[6][7]

Reporters Without Borders, in its Panama entry, states: “Historically, the major Panamanian media have been owned by members of the country's economic elite.” It names TVN as one of two television networks, with TM, that “are concentrated in Panama City, the capital”. RSF's 2026 index places Panama 65th of 180, with a score of 62.14.[8] Those are the monitor's statements.
