What is TV Azteca Guate?

TV Azteca Guate is a Guatemalan television broadcaster. Its site, tvaztecaguate.com, carries sections for national, departmental and international news, entertainment, technology and sport, and a live service, TV Azteca Play. Its contact details give an address in zona 3 of Mixco.[4]

As retrieved on 26 September 2026, the site's footer links to Grupo Salinas and to Elektra, Italika, Banco Azteca and Fundación Azteca, and carries the line “TV Azteca Guatemala © Todos los derechos reservados, 2024”. No register entry or company filing stating the broadcaster's shareholders was retrieved, so no ownership is stated here beyond what the footer shows.[4]

Its sports coverage is on the path tvaztecaguate.com/deportes of the parent site.[1]

What does TV Azteca Guate cover?

Domestic league. On 20 September 2026 the site published a live item on Malacateco against Mixco in the Torneo Apertura 2026, stating: “El partido es transmitido por TV Azteca Guate en canal 8 en señal abierta y en todas las compañías de cable. Además, también podrás verlo a través de TVAztecaPlay.”[3] Its sports path listed a similar live item for Mixco against Aurora on 13 September 2026.[1] On 26 September 2026 it previewed Guastatoya against San Pedro, in matchday 11 of the Apertura 2026, at the Estadio David Cordón Hichos that afternoon, stating: “podrás disfrutarlo en vivo por TV Azteca Guate, canal 8, en señal abierta y a través de todas las compañías de cable”.[8]

Spanish cup. On 24 September 2026, under Brandon Montenegro's byline, it reported that the Copa del Rey “será transmitida en Guatemala por señal abierta durante su edición 2026, luego de que TV Azteca Guate adquiriera los derechos”, and that “Los encuentros podrán seguirse a través del Canal 8, además de la plataforma digital play.tvaztecaguate.com”.[2] That is the broadcaster's own account of its rights; no statement from the Spanish federation was retrieved.

National team. On 25 September 2026 its sports path carried a preview and a report of Guatemala's Concacaf Nations League match against Jamaica.

How large is TV Azteca Guate's audience?

No audience figure for TV Azteca Guate was retrieved. What was retrieved is evidence that its audience is measured.

PRODU reported on 22 December 2022: “Kantar IBOPE Media y Tv Azteca Guatemala han renovado su contrato de prestación de servicios por 2 años más”. The same report states that Kantar IBOPE Media has provided services in Guatemala since 2000 and has more than 20 local clients. It quotes Jaime Torres, director general of TV Azteca Guatemala: “Kantar IBOPE Media es la mejor opción en el mercado de Guatemala”; he is reported as saying that real-time data are important for the channel's programming decisions. That is the broadcaster's view of its supplier, as PRODU reported it.[5] PRODU gave no start or end date for the renewed term, and no later renewal was retrieved, so the current status of the contract is not established here.

Kantar describes its Guatemalan services as including TV audience measurement, and describes a Central American consumer panel of 3,800 households.[6] Neither source publishes a channel share.

Since when has TV Azteca Guate existed?

No founding or launch date was retrieved. The broadcaster's own site, read on 26 September 2026, carries no history page, and its footer's copyright line reads 2024.[4]

The earliest dated document retrieved that names the Guatemalan company is PRODU's report of 22 December 2022 on the renewal of its audience-measurement contract, which names Jaime Torres as director general of TV Azteca Guatemala.[5] That is a date on which the company is documented, not a founding date.

Why does TV Azteca Guate matter in Guatemala's sport?

On its own reports, TV Azteca Guate carries matches of the Liga Nacional's Apertura 2026 on free-to-air channel 8 and on cable, and holds free-to-air rights to the 2026 Copa del Rey in Guatemala.[3][2] On those reports, domestic football reaches free-to-air viewers on its channel 8.

PRODU's report of December 2022 documents a Kantar IBOPE Media audience-measurement contract with the broadcaster.[5] Its sports path publishes news of the national team and of the domestic league alongside its broadcasts.[1]
