What is TN8?
TN8 is a Nicaraguan television news brand. The description of its live-stream page reads “Señal streaming de TN8 en vivo - Canal 8 Nicaragua - TN8, Toda Nicaragua con programación variada junto.” The same page links YouTube channels including one named 8 Deportivo.[1]
Its own page describes the site: “TN8.tv nace un 30 de octubre del 2013. Su principal objetivo es brindar a los usuarios, en Nicaragua y el mundo, un flujo de información ágil y confiable.” It also states: “Nuestra red de corresponsales dentro de Nicaragua es una de las más grandes del país.” Both are TN8's statements about itself.[2]
Ownership, as monitored. Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 entry for Nicaragua, states: “The Ortega-Murillo family has taken direct control of several national media outlets, including TV channels Canal 8, 4, 9, and 13, as well as radio stations such as Radio Ya and Radio Sandino, transforming the media landscape into a tool for government propaganda and silencing dissenting voices.”[3] TN8's own pages retrieved name no owning company; the copyright line reads “© Todos los derechos reservados.”[4]
The address tn8.tv redirected on 26 September 2026 to tn8.ni, where the site is served; sports news sits on the path tn8.ni/8-deportivo.[4]
What does TN8 cover?
As retrieved on 26 September 2026, the 8 Deportivo section's twelve most recent items ran from 23 to 26 September 2026.[4]
Domestic baseball. It led with “¿Quiénes son los favoritos en las semifinales del Pomares?”, by Fernando Rayo, which opens: “La lucha por el título del Pomares 2026 se redujo a cuatro equipos que desde este lunes comenzarán las series semifinales al mejor de cinco partidos.” It names the pairings as Estelí against Granada and the Bóer against Frente Sur Rivas.[5] On 23 September 2026 it carried “Equipos de la Profesional arman su roster de nacionales en el Draft”, on the professional league's draft.[4]
The U-23 World Cup. On 24 September 2026 it published “Nemesio Porras confía en Nicaragua para conquistar el oro en el Mundial Sub-23”, on the expectations of the president of the Federación Nicaragüense de Béisbol Asociado for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, which Nicaragua is due to host at venues in Managua, Masaya and León.[6] Canal 4 reported the dates as 6 to 15 November 2026; the tournament had not begun on 26 September 2026.[7]
Survey reporting. On 20 May 2026, under the headline “Béisbol vs. Fútbol: La batalla por la corona del deporte en Nicaragua”, it reported the M&R Consultores study “Nicaragua: Hábitos, Preferencias y Prácticas Deportivas (6ta Ola)”, which it describes as a national structured telephone survey of 4,395 people aged 12 and over, carried out in March and April 2026.[8]
Facilities. On 10 January 2026 it reported the inauguration of the fifth stage of a new baseball stadium in Jinotega, which it said was 45 per cent complete after an investment of 110 million córdobas.[9]
Other sport. The same section carried boxing, with a Fury–Joshua fight scheduled for December in Cardiff, international football, including “De fiesta a funeral: así reaccionaron los ticos tras el 4-3 ante Curazao”, basketball and Major League Baseball.[4]
How large is TN8's audience?
No audited television audience, ratings or web-traffic figure for TN8 or Canal 8 was retrieved, and no Nicaraguan audience-measurement body publishing channel figures was found. The regulator TELCOR's statistics pages could not be retrieved.
TN8's own page states that its news teams are active 24 hours a day and that its network of correspondents is one of the largest in the country; that is the outlet's own claim, and it gives no figure.[2]
Since when has TN8 existed?
TN8's own page states: “TN8.tv nace un 30 de octubre del 2013.”[2] That date is given for the website under the name TN8.tv. No source retrieved dates the television channel that the live-stream page calls Canal 8 Nicaragua, and no licence record from the regulator TELCOR was retrieved.[1]
The site's address had moved to tn8.ni by 26 September 2026, when tn8.tv redirected there.[4]
Why does TN8 matter in Nicaragua's sport?
TN8 carries a dedicated sports brand, 8 Deportivo, on its site and on YouTube, and on 26 September 2026 its sports section led with the semi-finals of the national baseball championship.[1][5] In the week to 26 September 2026 it reported the professional league's draft and the home WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup through the president of the national baseball federation.[4][6]
Reporters Without Borders names Canal 8 among the television channels it says the Ortega-Murillo family has taken direct control of; that is the monitor's statement, quoted in full above.[3]
