What is Tenfield?
Tenfield is a Uruguayan television, production and rights company whose business is built on the commercial rights to the competitions of the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol. El Observador, reporting on 23 September 2011, described it as “fundada en 1998, es la empresa que posee los derechos de televisión, Internet, publicidad estática y merchandasing de los torneos organizados por la AUF hasta 2016”, and said it was created by Francisco Casal together with Enzo Francescoli and Nelson Gutiérrez.[1] Búsqueda, reporting on 27 November 2025, refers to it as “la empresa de Francisco Casal”.[3]
The company's own site could not be read for this page: tenfield.com.uy is disallowed to automated retrieval by its robots file, so nothing below rests on the company's own account of itself. Its statistics site, estadisticas.tenfield.com.uy, was retrievable and publishes competition tables for the Campeonato Uruguayo de Primera División — points, matches played, wins, draws, losses and goals — and publishes no attendance figures.[6]
What does Tenfield cover?
What the company covers is defined by the rights lots it holds rather than by an editorial remit it publishes. In the AUF tender for the 2026–2029 cycle, Búsqueda reported on 22 December 2025 that Tenfield retained the streaming (OTT) lot at US$ 17.5 million a year by matching the offer of Team Click, which Búsqueda describes as “el nombre del consorcio integrado por Antel y Team Sports Media”; the technical production lot at over US$ 6 million a year; the advertising, sponsorship and merchandising lot at US$ 8 million a year; and the commercial production lot at an undisclosed amount.[4]
The same tender placed other elements of Uruguayan football with other holders: cable television with the DirecTV and Torneos y Competencias consortium at US$ 31.8 million a year, international transmissions with Team Click at US$ 3.1 million, the live and data feed with Mediapro at US$ 3 million, and amateur competitions together with the Copa Uruguay with Telecom and GMC Conosur at US$ 2.2 million.[4] Montevideo Portal, reporting on 3 December 2025 before the AUF announced winners, gave the floor prices as US$ 26 million for the cable lot and US$ 8.5 million for streaming, and put the total annual distribution at US$ 55 million less US$ 7 million of production costs.[5]
How large is Tenfield's audience?
No audited audience figure for Tenfield's own channels could be retrieved for this page. The recognised currency for Uruguayan television is Kantar Ibope Media, and the published 2025 ranking of the twenty most-watched programmes carried no Tenfield channel: its only sport entry was a Uruguay World Cup qualifier on the public Canal 5.[7] That is a statement about what the ranking contains, not a measurement of Tenfield.
What can be given with a date is the price paid for the rights. Búsqueda's figures of 22 December 2025 — US$ 17.5 million a year for streaming and over US$ 6 million for technical production — are the values agreed for the four seasons from 2026 to 2029.[4] Those are contract values, not audience measurements, and the two should not be read as the same thing.
Since when has Tenfield existed?
El Observador's account of 23 September 2011 gives 1998 as the founding year and names three founders, and no company statement of the date could be retrieved to set beside it, because the company's own site is disallowed to automated retrieval.[1][6] The 2011 report also records that the contract then in force ran to 2016 and covered television, internet, static advertising and merchandising for AUF competitions.[1]
The continuity of that position through to the present cycle is documented by the tender. El Observador reported on 9 December 2025 that Tenfield held a contractual “derecho a igualar la mejor oferta en todos los bloques o sublotes en los que se presentó”, that the AUF process was overseen by its president Ignacio Alonso, that the company's existing contract expired on 31 December 2025, and that the new rights would run from January 2026 to December 2029.[2] Búsqueda reported on 27 November 2025 that the company had been notified it remained in contention for the OTT contract with a 19 December deadline to match Team Click's offer of about US$ 17 million a year.[3]
Why does Tenfield matter in Uruguay's sport?
The company matters because the terms on which Uruguayan football reaches the public are set in the tender it takes part in, and those terms are dated. El Observador's report of 9 December 2025 records four sublots in which other bidders had offered more and in which Tenfield could still match: streaming, international transmissions, the betting-market feed and commercial audiovisual production.[2] Búsqueda's report of 22 December 2025 records how each of those was resolved.[4]
Ownership of Uruguayan media has been examined by a named monitoring body. The Federación de Sindicatos de Periodistas reported on 10 December 2017 on the OBSERVACOM study En pocas manos. Mapa de la concentración de los medios de comunicación en Uruguay, which examines “los tres grandes grupos mediáticos del país formados en torno a los canales de TV comerciales de Montevideo: el grupo Villar/De Feo, del Canal 10; el grupo Romay, históricamente asociado en torno al Canal 4; y el grupo Cardoso/Scheck, del Canal 12”, and which the report says also addresses the use of dilatory legal remedies against the 2014 audiovisual communication services law.[8] That study's named groups are the commercial free-to-air television groups; this page does not extend its findings to Tenfield, which it does not name in the passage quoted.[8] OBSERVACOM's own site returned a 403 error to every attempt made for this page.
