What is Televen?
Televen is a Venezuelan free-to-air television network operated by Corporación Televen C.A. and broadcasting on channel 10. The company's corporate page records that it began as a venture by a group of independent producers, ran test transmissions from 12 February 1988 and went officially to air on 3 July 1988; it names the businessman Omar Camero Zamora as the financier behind the launch.[1][2]
Like the other large private network it is a general-entertainment service rather than a sports channel, carrying news, drama, variety and children's programming alongside sport. Its sports output is a standing part of the schedule: the channel lists Venezuelan professional baseball, Major League Baseball, football, basketball and horse racing among its programme categories, together with the sports magazine Teledeportes.[1] In the 2025-26 domestic baseball season Televen was one of eight television services listed as carrying league games.[3]
What does Televen cover?
Baseball is the centre of the network's sports schedule. Televen appeared in the December 2025 channel guide for the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional on positions 22, 1022 HD and 106,[3] and again in the February 2026 guide to the season's final between Navegantes del Magallanes and Caribes de Anzoátegui.[5] The channel's own programme index also lists North American baseball, football, basketball and horse racing, and a dedicated sports-news strand.[1]
What Televen does not run is a statistical service or a records archive. Its site carries a Deportes news section alongside the programme index, but the channel's distinctive contribution in sport is live coverage and the magazine strand rather than a filed results record.[4]
What are Televen's reach and standing?
Televen states that by 1999 it had acquired transmitters in Maturín, Valle de la Pascua, Mérida, Valencia and Puerto Cabello and modernised existing ones elsewhere, and that its signal then covered “la totalidad del territorio nacional”. That is the network's own claim about its footprint.[1] The same page records the opposite starting point: in its first phase the channel had no in-house production and its transmissions reached only metropolitan Caracas.[2] No independent audience-measurement figure for the Venezuelan market could be retrieved for this page.
In sport, the measurable standing is rights carriage. Televen was among the eight television services carrying the 2025-26 Venezuelan professional baseball season.[3] Televen carries the domestic league on a national free-to-air signal.
Since when?
Televen gives two dates for its start: test transmissions from 12 February 1988, and the official launch on 3 July 1988, which the company treats as its anniversary.[2] The channel describes the first phase as music-video output carried under the red-sphere logo for channel 10, with no original production and a signal limited to the Caracas metropolitan area.[2]
National coverage came later. The company dates the completion of its transmitter network — Maturín, Valle de la Pascua, Mérida, Valencia and Puerto Cabello among the cities named — to 1999.[1] The licence has been held throughout by Corporación Televen C.A., registered under RIF J-00237616-3, and the corporate page names Omar Camero Zamora as the shareholder who financed the launch.[1] Founding, first transmission and the point at which the signal became national are three separate dates and are recorded separately here; the channel's own material does not give a date for a change of control.
Why does Televen matter in Venezuela's sport?
Televen matters for the same structural reason as the other large private network: it is a free-to-air channel on which a Venezuelan viewer can watch the domestic baseball league without a pay-television subscription.[1] Eight television services carried the 2025-26 season, and Televen was one.[3] That places its coverage in front of an audience that cable-only carriage does not reach.
It also gives the country a second national outlet with a continuous sports strand rather than occasional event coverage. The network has carried Venezuelan professional baseball and a sports magazine programme as standing fixtures of its schedule, and its signal has covered the whole country on the company's own account since 1999.[1][4] For a reader establishing where a Venezuelan athlete's performances were broadcast, Televen is one of the small number of channels with both national distribution and domestic rights.
