What is Telemetro?
Telemetro is a television channel of Corporación Medcom Panamá, S.A.
Medcom's site lists its television platforms as Telemetro, RPC, Eco TV, Oye, COS and ÚNICOS, its radio stations as Caliente, RPC Radio and Telemetro Radio, and its digital products as La Mordida and Medcom GO. The same site describes Medcom as “La compañía multimedios más grande de Panamá”; that is the company's own description.[3]
No shareholder register for Corporación Medcom Panamá, S.A. was retrieved. Telemetro's sports news is published on the path telemetro.com/deportes.[1]
What does Telemetro cover?
As retrieved on 26 September 2026, Telemetro's sports page carried a live item on the matchday 10 fixture Árabe Unido against Herrera in the Liga Panameña de Fútbol; a preview of Panama's friendly against India, headlined “India vs. Panamá: desde qué hora ver el partido este 25 de septiembre”, and the 1–1 result; golds for Edwin Núñez in bodyboard and Chamar Chambers at the Juegos Suramericanos Santa Fe 2026; and an item on the 14th COS Awards. The page covers football, athletics, boxing, gymnastics and surfing.[1]
World Cup. Kantar IBOPE Media's table for June 2026 lists channel TM's broadcasts of Ghana v Panama, at a 14.50 household rating and 176,160 individuals, and of Panama v Croatia, at 14.42 and 209,490, together with the tournament's opening ceremony. The same tables list Telemetro's newscast, TELEMETRO REPORTA ESTELAR, under the channel code TM.[5]
Sister channel. Medcom's RPC, whose own footer reads “RPC es un canal de MEDCOM Panamá”, keeps a Liga Panameña de Fútbol section, which on 26 September 2026 carried the results of matchday 9 and the fixtures for matchday 10 of the Apertura 2026.[6] In the June 2026 table RPC's broadcast of Ghana v Panama is second, at 17.71 and 234,010 individuals.[5]
How large is Telemetro's audience?
The measurement. Vida Digital reported on 12 December 2022 that Kantar IBOPE Media's television audience panel in Panama would be expanded to 1,385 people, covering 91 per cent of the urban population in households with television, and that “El estudio deberá estar listo a partir de la segunda mitad de 2023”.[8]
Medcom's figures. Medcom's advertising media kit prints for Telemetro, Monday to Friday across the whole day, “Share All DAY 63% +527.250 Rating 5.8 pts”, with the source line “Fuente: Kantar Ibope Media, (Total País) Promedio del 1 de Enero al 31 de Marzo 2026, (P18+)”. The kit does not state what the share is a share of, and these are Medcom's own presentation of the data for one quarter.[4]
Programme ratings. Kantar IBOPE Media's table for 1 to 30 June 2026, as published on centrotv.org, is headed by TM's CALLE 7 FINAL at a 19.54 household rating and 203,780 individuals. In the July 2026 table TM's LEYLA, over 22 broadcasts, is first at 15.69.[5] No audited traffic figure for telemetro.com was retrieved.
Since when has Telemetro existed?
Medcom's history states: “El 13 de octubre de 1981 irrumpió en la capital panameña la señal joven y colorida de ‘Telemetro Canal 13, su canal de película’”. It dates Radio Programas Continental, the origin of RPC, to 3 January 1950 and RPC Televisión to 14 March 1960, and it records the merger of RPC TV and Telemetro under Corporación Medcom Panamá, S.A. from 1997.[2]
The same history states: “16 de junio de 1999 nace Cable Onda Sports (hoy COS)”. COS now appears among Medcom's television platforms.[2][3] These dates are the company's own account; no second source for them was retrieved.
Why does Telemetro matter in Panama's sport?
Telemetro and its sister channel RPC carried Panama's matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and both appear with those matches in Kantar IBOPE Media's programme ranking for June 2026.[5] Through RPC and COS, Medcom also runs a dedicated football league section and a channel that began, by its history, as Cable Onda Sports on 16 June 1999.[2][3][6]
Reporters Without Borders, in its Panama entry, states: “Historically, the major Panamanian media have been owned by members of the country's economic elite.” It names “TM and TVN” as the television networks that “are concentrated in Panama City, the capital”.[7] That is the monitor's statement; it names no owner of Medcom.
