What is Surfline?

Surfline is surfing's forecasting service and one of its principal editorial platforms. Founded in 1985 by Sean Collins, it produces the wave and weather models used to decide when professional contests run, alongside contest coverage, camera networks and an archive of the sport.[1]

What does it cover?

Forecasts and live cameras at surf breaks worldwide; WSL Championship Tour event coverage; big-wave sessions and swell events; and long-form reporting on the sport's history and science.[1] [2]

Why does it matter?

Because professional surfing is run on waiting periods rather than fixed schedules: contests are called on when the forecast is right, and Surfline's models are a working part of how the tour operates, not merely coverage of it.[1] [2]
