What is Sportacentrs.com?

Sportacentrs.com is a Latvian-language sport news site at sportacentrs.com. Its footer reads “© 2008 - 2026, Sportacentrs.com” and adds that republication requires a link to the site.[2]

Its editorial page gives three contact points: [email protected] as a general address, [email protected] for the editorial office and press releases, and [email protected] for advertising. The same page names editorial staff including Rolands Eliņš, Pēteris Neimanis and Kristaps Driķis.[2]

The site's own pages retrieved name no publishing company. The last dated record of one is from 2011: jauns.lv reported on 28 July 2011 that the internet project was run by SIA “4.vara”, whose co-owner was SIA “Mediju nams”.[4] The business directory firmas.lv lists an SIA “4.vara” under registration number 40003889127, at Valkas iela 2 in Daugavpils; the listing does not connect it to the site.[5] No later owner was established, and the ownership given here is dated to 2011.

The site's menu runs from Hokejs, Basketbols and Futbols through Bokss, Teniss, Ziemas sports, Volejbols, Florbols, Handbols, Pludmales volejbols and Motoru sports to Paralimpiskais sports, Vieglatlētika, Skeletons, Bobslejs, Biatlons, Kamaniņu sports, Riteņbraukšana, Regbijs, Peldēšana, Cīņas sports and Spēka sports, with further sections for Citi sporta veidi, Veselība and Totalizators.[1]

On 24 and 25 September 2026 its newest items covered Latvian hockey players in the Czech league and the NHL, the Latvian hockey championship, the EuroLeague, a round of a Latvian basketball cup, women's basketball, Formula One, the Nations League in football and BMX racing in Valmiera.[1] Those are one day's items.

It reports on the Latvian leagues and national teams. On 21 September 2026 it published “Latvijas-Igaunijas līga jauno sezonu sāks bez titulsponsora”, by Valters Žagata, on the cross-border basketball league's new season.[7] On 9 October 2024 it reported the national basketball teams' broadcasting arrangements under the headline “No 2025. gada novembra Latvijas izlašu spēles pārraidīs LTV un “TV3 Group””.[6]

How large is Sportacentrs.com's audience?

Gemius, an internet audience-measurement company, publishes a monthly ranking of audited Latvian websites, which it defines as sites carrying its tracking code: “Topā iekļautas auditētās interneta vietnes ar ievietotu Gemius izsekošanas kodu”. Its ranking for August 2026, published on 7 September 2026 and covering users aged 15 to 75 connecting from Latvia, places sportacentrs.com 16th, with 212,300 real users.[3] That is one month's reading for the whole domain.

An older figure concerns its former television channel. In the jauns.lv report of 28 July 2011, a project manager at the operator Lattelecom, Jānis Palkavnieks, is quoted: “Kopumā to vismaz reizi skatījušies 41 000 interaktīvās televīzijas klientu.” That is a count of interactive-television customers who had watched the channel at least once during its test period in 2011, and it is the operator's figure.[4]

Since when has Sportacentrs.com existed?

The site's footer gives the span “2008 - 2026”; that is the site's own statement, and no other founding date was retrieved.[2]

In 2011 the brand extended to television. jauns.lv reported on 28 July 2011: “Nacionālā elektronisko plašsaziņas līdzekļu padome izsniegusi apraides atļauju SIA “4.vara” televīzijas programmas “Sportacentrs.com TV” veidošanai un izplatīšanai”, citing the regulator's representative Daira Apine. The report states that the channel began in test mode in July 2011 and was shown on channel 411 of Lattelecom's interactive television in the basic package.[4] The channel's current status was not established.

The same report describes the ownership at that date: SIA “4.vara” was co-owned by SIA “Mediju nams”, whose entire share capital SIA “MN mediji” had bought at the beginning of 2010, with three owners holding 33.33 per cent each. That is the 2011 record; no later record was retrieved.[4]

Why does Sportacentrs.com matter in Latvia's sport?

In Gemius's ranking of audited Latvian websites for August 2026, sportacentrs.com is 16th, with 212,300 real users; the general news portals delfi.lv, tvnet.lv and lsm.lv are first, second and sixth on the same list.[3] Its menu includes skeleton, bobsleigh, luge and Paralympic sport, and its reporting includes the Latvian leagues and the national teams' broadcasting rights.[1][6][7] In 2011 the regulator licensed a television channel under its name.[4]

Its ownership after 2011 is not on record in the sources retrieved. On ownership in the market as a whole, the Media Pluralism Monitor's Latvia 2026 page states: “Information on media ownership is publicly available through the Enterprise Register of Latvia, in line with the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism and Proliferation Financing (Latvijas Vēstnesis, 116, 30.07.2008) and general commercial transparency requirements.” It adds: “However, no media-specific regulatory framework exists that would require targeted transparency of ownership and ultimate beneficiaries in the media sector, including in the digital environment.”[8] Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 entry, states: “Media ownership is generally transparent and does not raise concerns about market dominance, but greater diversity would foster media pluralism.”[9] Those are the monitoring bodies' words about the market, not findings about Sportacentrs.com.
