What is Sport 1?
ספורט 1 is a Hebrew-language Israeli sports site published on a subdomain of Maariv at sport1.maariv.co.il. Its footer carries Maariv branding, and its broadcast schedule page lists the site among Maariv media properties alongside the Maariv newspaper and the radio stations Eco 99 and 103FM.[1][4]
Ownership is documented only at group level. Walla's own about page, which sets out that portal's acquisition by the Jerusalem Post Group in December 2020, lists the group's other properties as Maariv, Radio 103FM and Sport 1.[3] Haaretz reported on 16 September 2020 that Eli Azur, owner of the Jerusalem Post, also owns the Maariv daily and the radio stations 103FM and Eco99, along with the Charlton sports channels and a billboard advertising firm.[5] No company filing naming the operator of the site itself could be retrieved, and the site is described here by the group placement its sister outlet publishes rather than by a corporate document.
The name is shared with television channels of the same number. The site's own broadcast schedule lists six Israeli sports channels — Sport 1, Sport 2, Sport 3, Sport 4, Sport 5 and Sport 6 — which is a channel family rather than this website.[4]
What does Sport 1 cover?
The site's own listing is broad: Israeli and international football; basketball including the Israeli leagues, the NBA and the EuroLeague; tennis, handball, volleyball, swimming, judo and boxing; Olympic sports; UFC, WWE, cycling, motorsport, water polo, American football, baseball, extreme sports, MMA and esports.[1]
It also publishes a broadcast schedule for the Israeli sports channels, which for the week of 19 to 25 September 2026 listed the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, the Spanish Super Cup, the Dutch Eredivisie and the English Championship in football, Israeli Winner League basketball, and a WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara.[4]
Its reporting carries competition figures that originate with the administrators. On 25 May 2026 it published the Israeli Premier League administration's season attendance for 2025/26 as 2,280,759, against 1,809,420 in 2024/25, with single-round figures of 83,179 in round 9 and 83,276 in round 21, and quoted the league chairman on the reasons.[2] That is the administration's figure, carried by the site.
How large is Sport 1's audience?
No audited audience or traffic figure for the site could be retrieved. Neither the site's own pages nor its broadcast schedule publishes reach, visits or share data.[1][4]
The site of the Israeli audience measurement committee, ועדת המדרוג, could not be fetched, and in any event television measurement would not cover a website. Traffic estimators are not audited measurement and no estimate from one is given here in place of a measured figure.
The only measured figures on the site's own pages belong to the competitions it covers rather than to the site: the 2,280,759 season attendance and the 83,276 single-round record it published on 25 May 2026 are the league administration's counts.[2]
Since when has Sport 1 existed?
No founding date for the site could be established from a source retrieved here. Its own pages give no year of establishment and no company filing could be retrieved.[1]
The group dates that can be stated are its sister outlets'. Walla's about page dates the Jerusalem Post Group's acquisition of Walla to December 2020 and lists Sport 1 among the group's properties at the date of access.[3] Haaretz reported the purchase of Walla by the Jerusalem Post's owner on 16 September 2020 and set out that owner's existing holdings, Maariv among them.[5] A group's acquisition date is not the site's founding date and neither is the parent newspaper's.
The site's own dated output can be anchored to the material retrieved here: a league attendance report of 25 May 2026 and a broadcast schedule current to the week of 19 September 2026.[2][4]
Why does Sport 1 matter in Israel's sport?
It is a route by which competition administrations' own figures reach the public. The 2025/26 Ligat ha'Al attendance total of 2,280,759, the previous season's 1,809,420 and the single-round figures of 83,179 and 83,276 were published there on 25 May 2026 as the league administration's own numbers.[2]
It also publishes the schedule by which Israeli viewers find sport on television, covering six channels and, for the week of 19 to 25 September 2026, six European football competitions, Israeli Winner League basketball and a WTA tournament.[4]
Its coverage is not confined to the league sports: its own listing runs from football and basketball through judo, swimming and Olympic sports to motorsport, MMA and esports,[1] and it sits in a group that also holds a general portal, a newspaper and radio stations.[3]
