What is Sport.pl?

Sport.pl is the sports website of the Polish publisher Agora. Wirtualnemedia.pl describes it as “funkcjonującym jako dział portali Gazeta.pl i Wyborcza.pl”, operating as a section of Agora's Gazeta.pl and Wyborcza.pl portals.[3] The site itself and Agora's corporate site both refused retrieval, so neither is quoted here; the outlet is documented from the audience-measurement data and trade reporting below.

Wirtualnemedia.pl reported on 12 January 2026 that from 1 January 2026 Agora was merging the sports desk of Gazeta Wyborcza, and its other online sports desks, into Sport.pl. It names Łukasz Cegliński as editor-in-chief of Sport.pl.[1]

The Euromedia Ownership Monitor's Poland report of December 2025 lists Gazeta Wyborcza under the company Agora, with main owners given as “Powszechne Towarzystwo Emerytalne PZU S.A. (17.68%) Agora-Holding sp. z o.o. (11.60%), Media Development Investment Fund. Inc. (11.49%), NATIONALE-NEDERLANDEN Powszechne Towarzystwo Emerytalne S.A. (8.84%)”, punctuation as printed.[5]

What does Sport.pl cover?

The site's own pages could not be retrieved, so its sections are not listed here.

Its paid product began in May 2026. Wirtualnemedia.pl reported on 12 May 2026 that Agora's new subscription, Sport.pl+, started that Tuesday, 12 May, priced at 1 złoty a month for the first six months and, after that, “9,90 zł za miesiąc”. It reports that the former footballer Łukasz Piszczek would write a monthly newsletter for subscribers.[2] In its interview Mikołaj Chrzan, a member of the board of Wyborcza and Gazeta.pl, answers: “Szeroki zespół Sport.pl liczy około 35 osób”, a wider Sport.pl team of about 35 people. He adds: “Nie idziemy po dziesiątki czy setki, przy naszej skali naturalnym punktem odniesienia są tysiące subskrypcji”, that is, at Sport.pl's scale the natural reference point is thousands of subscriptions, not tens or hundreds.[2]

The earlier report of 12 January 2026 quotes Grzegorz Kubicki, Sport.pl's publishing director, on the merger: “Po pierwsze – wzmacniamy Sport.pl, czyli najsilniejszą i najlepiej rozpoznawalną markę sportową w Agorze.” That is his characterisation of the brand within Agora.[1]

How large is Sport.pl's audience?

Web audiences in Poland are measured by Mediapanel, run by Gemius and Polskie Badania Internetu. The figures here are as Wirtualnemedia.pl reported them.

For May 2026 it reported: “na Sport.pl (Agora), funkcjonującym jako dział portali Gazeta.pl i Wyborcza.pl, każdy z 3,16 mln internautów spędził przeciętnie 10 minut i 45 sekund. Miesiąc do miesiąca liczba odwiedzających poszła w dół o 901,4 tys. (22,2 proc.)” That is, 3.16 million users, each spending on average 10 minutes and 45 seconds, and a fall of 901,400 users, or 22.2 per cent, on the month.[3] The report adds: “Na wyniki serwisu mogło wpłynąć uruchomienie w połowie maja oferty subskrypcyjnej (obejmującej dłuższe, autorskie treści), której ambasadorem został były piłkarz Łukasz Piszczek.” That is, the mid-May launch of the subscription may have affected the result. Its table, sourced to Gemius/PBI, gives Sport.pl 3,164,022 users and a reach of 10.64 per cent, and the report is headlined in part “Sport.pl z dużym spadkiem”, Sport.pl with a large fall.[3]

For the FIFA World Cup period, 11 June to 19 July 2026, it reported 4,045,788 users of Sport.pl, a reach of 13.40 per cent, each spending an average of 11 minutes and 11 seconds, against 3,888,000 users from 11 April to 19 May 2026.[4] For January 2022, Press.pl reported from Mediapanel that Sport.pl had 7.59 million users, 13.48 per cent more than in December 2021.[6] Each figure is a reading of one period.

Since when has Sport.pl existed?

No founding date was retrieved: the site and Agora's corporate pages refused retrieval, and the trade reports read do not give one.[1] The earliest dated record retrieved is Mediapanel's figure for January 2022, reported by Press.pl on 14 February 2022.[6]

Its present form is dated. The merger with the Gazeta Wyborcza sports desk took effect on 1 January 2026, and the Sport.pl+ subscription began on 12 May 2026, both as Wirtualnemedia.pl reported; its January report was headlined in part “Niebawem subskrypcje”, subscriptions soon.[1][2]

Why does Sport.pl matter in Poland's sport?

It is the sports site of Agora, the publisher of Gazeta Wyborcza, and from 1 January 2026 it absorbed that newspaper's sports desk.[1][5] In Mediapanel's data for the World Cup period, as Wirtualnemedia.pl reported them, it had 4,045,788 users; in May 2026 it had 3.16 million.[4][3]

The Media Pluralism Monitor's Poland 2026 page states: “The Market Plurality area scored within the medium-high risk band.”[7] Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 entry, names Agora's daily among “independent media outlets such as the TV channel TVN, the newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza and the news site Onet.pl”.[8] Those are the monitoring bodies' characterisations, and neither names Sport.pl.
