What is Sport Klub?

Sport Klub is a pay-television sports operation in Slovenia, running television channels and the website at sportklub.si; its own metadata describes it as "Sportklub, televizija in spletna stran z najboljšo športno vsebino" and it offers a mobile application alongside the site.[1] The footer of its own pages identifies it as "Member of United Media".[2]

The Euromedia Ownership Monitor's Slovenia country report of December 2025 describes the United Media group as majority owned by the BC Partners investment fund, in the course of attributing the news site N1info.si to that group.[3] That attribution is the monitor's and is anchored to its December 2025 edition. The site's Slovene pages have also been served from the sportklub.n1info.si address, which redirects to sportklub.si; the bare domain recorded here is the one the site now resolves to.[2]

What does Sport Klub cover?

Its own schedule listing advertises football — the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, Serie A, other European leagues and Prva liga Telemach — basketball including the EuroLeague, the EuroCup, the NBA and the ABA League as well as the Slovenian domestic competition, tennis including the ATP and WTA tours, the Grand Slam tournaments and the Davis Cup, winter sport in alpine skiing and ski jumping, and volleyball, handball, cycling and athletics.[1]

The domestic football arrangement is the one with a published date anchor. In a report of 12 July 2026 the channel stated that for the 2026/27 season "Na programih Sportkluba si boste lahko v vsakem krogu ogledali štiri od petih tekem, preostali obračun pa bo na voljo na Šport TV" — four of the five matches in each round on Sport Klub's channels, the remaining match on Šport TV — and that the two broadcasters have carried the competition since the 2021/22 season, when an agreement followed Telemach Slovenija becoming the league's title sponsor.[2] The competition itself is run by Nogometna zveza Slovenije, which lists Prva liga Telemach and Pokal Pivovarna Union among its 2026/27 competitions.[4]

How large is Sport Klub's audience?

No audited audience figure for Sport Klub in Slovenia could be retrieved. The recognised television currency in the market is the AGB Nielsen people-meter panel, described by RTV Slovenija in a 2026 release as a panel of 600 households, persons aged four and over;[5] no channel-level AGB Nielsen result for Sport Klub was obtained for this page, and no subscriber number published by the operator was retrieved.[1][2]

One commercial figure is available at one remove and is attributed rather than adopted: Ekipa reported on 5 March 2026 that United Media holds the Slovenian first-division television rights and that, on what the article itself calls "neuradne informacije" — unofficial information — the annual compensation is "med 2,1 in 2,3 milijona evrov", with first-division clubs receiving roughly 200,000 euros a season.[6] That is a single secondary source reporting a contract value, not an audience measure, and it is presented as such.

Since when has Sport Klub existed?

A date for the launch of the channels in Slovenia could not be established from a source retrieved for this page; the operator's own pages carry its rights listings and its group affiliation but no dated account of its establishment.[1][2]

What is dated is the domestic rights relationship: the operator's own report states that Sport Klub and Šport TV have broadcast the Slovenian first division since the 2021/22 season, and that the current arrangement runs for 2026/27.[2] A rights period is not a founding date, and the two are kept apart here. Broadcast rights also go stale faster than almost anything else on a page like this: the arrangement described is the one stated for 2026/27 and carries no assertion about seasons beyond it.

Why does Sport Klub matter in Slovenia's sport?

Because the top division of the country's most widely played team sport is carried mainly on pay television rather than free-to-air: on the operator's own account, four of five Prva liga Telemach matches in each round of the 2026/27 season are on its channels.[2][4] Where a competition sits behind a subscription is a structural fact about a market, and it is stated here without evaluation.

The ownership setting has been characterised by named bodies. The Euromedia Ownership Monitor, published in December 2025, states that "The Slovenian media landscape is characterized by a pronounced concentration of ownership in the hands of a few major groups, alongside a web of business and political interests", and that "Complex ownership chains, the use of third parties, or formally concealed ownership reduce the effectiveness of legislation".[3] The Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom's 2026 Media Pluralism Monitor scores Slovenia at 75 per cent risk for Market Plurality and notes that "The Mass Media Act (ZMed-1) introduced stronger transparency obligations regarding ownership, financing, and public funding, but their effects remain to be seen".[7] Both findings are quoted and attributed to the bodies that made them.
