What is Sport.cz?
Sport.cz is a Czech sports news website. Its footer carries the lines “Online magazín deníku Právo & Seznam.cz” and “Copyright © 1996–2026, Seznam.cz, a.s., Borgis, a.s., ČTK, DPA, Reuters, fotobanka Profimedia”, naming the internet company Seznam.cz and the publishing house Borgis first, followed by agencies and a photo bank.[1]
Seznam's history page states how the two are connected: “V roce 2019 jsme koupili dvě regionální rádia – Expres FM a Classic Praha a o čtyři roky později jsme se stali majitelem vydavatelství Borgis, které vydává deník Právo a připravuje obsah pro servery Novinky.cz, Sport.cz a Super.cz.” That is, in 2019 Seznam bought two regional radio stations, and four years later it became the owner of the publishing house Borgis, which publishes the daily Právo and prepares content for the sites Novinky.cz, Sport.cz and Super.cz.[3]
Seznam describes itself as “česká internetová jednička”, a claim it makes about itself, and states that it runs more than 30 services with more than 1,900 staff.[2]
What does Sport.cz cover?
The site's menu is divided into Fotbal, Hokej, Tenis, Motorsport, Zimní sporty, Ostatní, MMA and Esport.[1]
On 25 September 2026 its leading items included live coverage of an ice hockey extraliga game involving Hradec Králové, Mladá Boleslav's win at Sparta, Liberec's first win of the season, an item headed “Sejk se rezolutně postavil za Schicka: Česko ho nikdy neocenilo”, the entries for the Velká pardubická steeplechase, and a report headed “Čeští kajakáři a kanoisté získali na ME ve slalomu stříbro v závodech hlídek” — Czech kayakers and canoeists won silver in the team events at the European canoe slalom championships.[1] Those are one day's items.
The content, by Seznam's account, is prepared by Borgis, the publisher of the daily Právo, which also prepares content for Novinky.cz and Super.cz.[3]
How large is Sport.cz's audience?
SPIR's NetMonitor is the online audience measurement organised by the Sdružení pro internetový rozvoj, with Gemius, S.A. as contractor; it combines measurement code on the sites with a panel of users.[5] Its landscape of the Czech online market for August 2026 covers internet users aged 10 to 99, a universe of 8,686,941. It lists Seznam.cz as a publisher with 7,466,976 real users, a reach of 86.0 per cent. For comparison, the same landscape lists Mediální skupina Mafra with 6,840,768 real users, FTV Prima / Impression Media with 6,663,888 and Czech News Center / Active with 3,915,648.[4]
That figure is for Seznam.cz as a whole, across its services, and not for Sport.cz. The landscape carries no separate row for Sport.cz, and no per-site figure for it was retrieved.[4] It is one month's reading.
Since when has Sport.cz existed?
The date on which Sport.cz first appeared was not established from a retrieved source. The footer's copyright line runs from 1996, the year Seznam gives for its own start: its history states that “Seznam se poprvé načetl v roce 1996”, and that it was founded by a university student, Ivo Lukačovič.[1][3]
The present ownership is dated by Seznam's own history: it became the owner of Borgis, which prepares Sport.cz's content, four years after 2019. The same page states of its founder: “Ivovi patřilo až do roku 2016, kdy se stal opět jediným majitelem firmy, 70 % akcií.” — he held 70 per cent of the shares until 2016, when he again became the sole owner of the company.[3] Those statements are the company's own, as retrieved on 25 September 2026.
Why does Sport.cz matter in Czechia's sport?
Sport.cz is the sport site of Seznam.cz, for which NetMonitor's August 2026 landscape gives 7,466,976 real users, a reach of 86.0 per cent of Czech internet users aged 10 to 99, for Seznam.cz as a whole.[4] Seznam states that Borgis, which it owns, prepares the site's content alongside that of Novinky.cz and the daily Právo.[3]
Monitoring bodies have written on Seznam's place in news. The Euromedia Ownership Monitor's 2025 report for the Czech Republic describes “Seznam.cz as a key player in news distribution” and states: “The Seznam.cz homepage plays a vital role in news discovery, as can be seen from the services listed on it (in the default version, users can personalise the layout after signing in).”[6] The Media Pluralism Monitor's 2026 page for the Czech Republic lists among its findings: “Persistently high concentration of media ownership across offline and online markets, combined with limited effectiveness of the regulatory framework in addressing consolidation.”[7] Those are the monitoring bodies' characterisations.
