What is Sitel?

Sitel is a national commercial television broadcaster in North Macedonia. Its site gives its name as Сител Телевизија, in the page title “Спорт | Сител Телевизија” and in the line “© 2026 Сител Телевизија”, and publishes its sport coverage at sitel.com.mk/sport.[1]

The media regulator's report on media ownership in 2025 counts it among the five terrestrial television stations at state level, and states: “Четири правни и две физички лица се јавуваат како директни сопственици на петте терестријални телевизии на државно ниво.”[2] On Sitel it states: “Краен сопственик на ТВ Сител е лицето Горан Ивановски, кое индиректно ја поседува телевизијата преку Друштвото за трговија „Монтеко“ ДООЕЛ експорт-импорт Скопје, основано во 1993 година.” The report takes shareholder data from the Central Registry as at 5 May 2025.[2] No later ownership change was found in the regulator's publications retrieved.

What does Sitel cover?

When retrieved on 24 September 2026, the sport page's items were dated 21 to 23 September 2026. It led with kickboxing, under the headline “Успешен ден за македонските кикбоксери: Три обезбедени бронзи и победа на Глигорова”, and carried two further items on the kickboxing world championship. It also carried an item that the new futsal season would start on 10 October and one on Macedonian teams at the chess Olympiad.[1]

The same page carried international football, including a coaching appointment at Borussia Mönchengladbach and a contract item on Arsenal, and Formula 1.[1]

The site's Спорт menu is divided into “Фудбал”, “Кошарка”, “Ракомет”, “Тенис”, “Ф1” and “Спорт плус”, and the site links a “ТВ Програма” schedule.[3]

The regulator's programme supervision covered Sitel. The regulator's regular programme supervision of 1 April 2025 covered TV Alsat-M, TV Telma, TV Alfa, TV Kanal 5 and TV Sitel; it checked commercial communications, the protection of minors, quiz and contest rules, premium-rate telephone services and gaming broadcasts, and reported: “Со надзорот не се констатирани прекршувања од Законот за аудио и аудиовизуелни медиумски услуги”.[4]

How large is Sitel's audience?

Television audience figures in North Macedonia were not retrieved from an audited audience currency, and the regulator's ownership report retrieved publishes none per channel.[2] The regulator's 2024 market analysis carries a chart of shares of total viewing, “Удел во вкупната гледаност”, without naming its data source; its values could not be read consistently and are not given here.[5] The most recent per-channel figure retrieved is a regulator survey for the first quarter of 2020, reported by Meta.mk on 12 May 2020: by computer-assisted telephone interview of 2,400 respondents, 60.5 per cent said they had watched Sitel, against 54.42 per cent for Kanal 5, 39.5 per cent for МТВ 1, 32.21 per cent for Telma, 26.88 per cent for Alfa and 18.79 per cent for Alsat-M.[6] That is reported viewing in one quarter six years before the build date, as a news site reported it, and not a measured audience share.

The regulator's 2024 market analysis gives revenues for the five national terrestrial channels in Table 9: Sitel MKD 566.37 million, Kanal 5 281.83 million, Alsat-M 180.63 million, Telma 152.61 million and Alfa 135.16 million.[5] Revenues are not audience, and the analysis retrieved does not give the source of its viewing data. The regulator's announcement of 26 September 2025 gives the industry's total revenues in 2024 as MKD 3,219.21 million and the combined revenues of all commercial television stations as MKD 1,607.39 million.[7]

Since when has Sitel existed?

No founding or first-broadcast date for the channel was retrieved from Sitel's own site. The regulator's ownership report gives a date for the owning company, not for the channel: „Монтеко“ ДООЕЛ експорт-импорт Скопје, “основано во 1993 година”.[2] That date is the company's, and it is not adopted here as the channel's.

Why does Sitel matter in North Macedonia's sport?

Sitel is one of the five national terrestrial channels in the regulator's records, with 2024 revenues of MKD 566.37 million in its Table 9.[2][5] Its sport page, as retrieved, gave space to combat sports, futsal and chess alongside football and motor racing.[1]

Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index entry, ranks North Macedonia 45th of 180 with a score of 69.49. It states: “Although certain types of media concentration are prohibited by law, the editorial staff of some of the major TV channels are exposed to economic pressures from their owners.” It also states: “The two largest parties (in power and in opposition) have created parallel media systems over which they exert their political and economic influence.”[8] Those are RSF's characterisations of the sector; RSF does not name a channel in them. RSF's entry also states: “Although television is the dominant source of information, online media play an important role.”[8]
