What is Relevo?
Relevo is a Spanish digital sports publication owned by the media group Vocento. A report of its launch, dated 24 May 2022, records that it began without a website, publishing first on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, with Twitch planned for June 2022 and the site itself for September 2022. Its director, Óscar Campillo, was quoted there as saying: "Hemos venido a contar el Deporte. Dar noticias por todos los canales por los que se informa la gente: Tik Tok, Instagram y Twitter; y en septiembre la web."[1]
The commercial design of the title was set out in reporting five days earlier, on 19 May 2022. Vocento was reported as rejecting a subscription model, in contrast with The Athletic, on the view that subscriptions were not viable for Spanish sports media; the newsroom was put at about 80 people, "con una edad media de 33 años y casi la mitad serán mujeres", with Óscar Campillo as director and Hugo Cerezo as subdirector.[2]
That same report gave the group's financial projections for the venture: first-quarter costs of €439,000, a negative EBITDA of €6 million forecast for 2022, positive EBITDA expected in 2025, and more than €4 million expected in 2027.[2] Those were forecasts made in May 2022 and are reported here as such; whether they were met could not be established from a retrievable source. Relevo's own site could not be retrieved for this account, so the title's self-description is not quoted.
What does Relevo cover?
Relevo is measured as a Spanish sports property. Comscore's State of Sports 2025 España report, as reported on 19 November 2025, counted relevo.com alongside marca.com, as.com, sport.es and mundodeportivo.com as the Spanish sports digital properties it measured.[4] It is the only one of those five with no printed newspaper behind it, and it does not appear in the Estudio General de Medios newspaper readership table that carries the four sports dailies.[5]
Its editorial approach at launch was described in terms of audience rather than sport. An analysis published on 29 May 2022 reported that the title was aimed at readers aged 18 to 35 and prioritised TikTok and Twitch over more established platforms, with the reasoning given by the outlet that "muchas veces, para que el usuario vaya al site, la marca tiene que ser reconocible".[3] Reporting of 19 May 2022 described the target as young audiences, disaffected readers and women, approached through social media and video and with an explicit rejection of clickbait, and named The Athletic and Bleacher Report as reference points.[2]
A current account of which sports Relevo covers and how its desks are organised could not be sourced, because the outlet's own site could not be retrieved, and none is asserted here.
How large is Relevo's audience?
The most recent measurement that could be retrieved is Comscore's. Its State of Sports 2025 España report, as reported on 19 November 2025, gave 15.3 million unique users for marca.com and 15.2 million for as.com, and reported sport.es, mundodeportivo.com and relevo.com as falling between 14.1 million and 8.9 million, without giving a figure for any of them individually; 8.9 million is the lowest figure in that band.[4] The month the report measured was not stated in that account, which limits how precisely the figure can be dated.
No readership figure exists for Relevo in the Estudio General de Medios newspaper tables, because those tables measure printed newspapers and no print edition of Relevo could be identified; the four Spanish sports dailies in that table were measured at 881,000, 369,000, 276,000 and 177,000 readers a day in the second wave of 2026.[5] Those figures are given for context and are not a comparison with Relevo, which is measured on a different basis.
The only social-platform figures that could be retrieved are from the launch period and are now four years old. A report of 29 May 2022 recorded roughly 37,000 Twitter followers, 12,000 on TikTok and 4,000 on Instagram, and a launch campaign that produced about 30,000 new social followers, 805,000 video views and some 20,000 interactions.[3] No current follower or engagement figures could be retrieved from a measurement body, and none are stated here.
Since when has Relevo existed?
Relevo launched on 24 May 2022, and the launch was reported that day. What launched on that date was the brand and its social accounts, not a website: the report records a strategy of "meses en redes sociales, antes incluso de lanzar su web", with the site itself planned for September 2022.[1] The two dates are distinct and the second could not be pinned to a day from a retrievable source.
The project had been prepared inside Vocento before then. Reporting of 19 May 2022 described the newsroom, the leadership, the budget and the projections five days ahead of the launch, which places the internal decision earlier still, though no date for it could be retrieved.[2]
On the day of launch the group's chief executive was reported as noting more than 20,000 Twitter followers on day one.[1] Launched on 24 May 2022, the title had therefore existed for a little over four years by September 2026, which makes it much the newest of the five Spanish sports properties Comscore measured in its 2025 sports report.[4]
Why does Relevo matter in Spain's sport?
The measured case is that a title launched in May 2022 was, by the Comscore report reported in November 2025, being counted in the same table as the four Spanish sports dailies, in a band running from 14.1 million users down to 8.9 million that the report did not break out by site.[4] That does not establish where it stands against the four, but it places it inside the set of properties the measurement body treats as Spanish national sports media.
The structural case is that it is the only one of those five with no printed edition and, on the reporting available, no subscription paywall: Vocento was reported in May 2022 as deciding against subscriptions and planning to fund the title through advertising and branded content across social platforms.[2] It is therefore a different kind of object from the dailies and from the broadcasters, and the reason it belongs on a national list is that it is measured nationally, not that it is a variant of a newspaper.
Whether the financial projections made at launch were realised could not be established, so nothing is claimed about the model's success. The competitions Relevo reports on are described elsewhere on this site under LaLiga and Liga Endesa, and the national picture under sport in Spain.
