What is RedGol?
RedGol is a Chilean sports news site. Its own Quiénes somos page gives 2009 as the year of its creation and names Futbol Sites as the company established at its creation, directed by Federico Grinberg, Nahuel Pan and Javier Troncoso, and states that Futbol Sites is now part of Better Collective, a digital sports media group founded in Denmark in 2004.[1] Every element of that account is the site's own statement about itself and is carried here with its attribution.
It states its mission as “entregar la mejor información de manera oportuna y precisa, siempre con foco en territorio chileno, entreteniendo a los usuarios”, and describes a staff of journalists, community managers and audiovisual producers.[1]
What does RedGol cover?
Football is the core. Its front page carries the Liga de Primera, the Copa Chile and the Chilean national team alongside the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, and European club competition; separate sections cover women's football and the transfer market.[2]
Beyond football it runs a section, RedSport, carrying tennis, Formula One, the NBA, rugby, mixed martial arts and boxing.[2] The site's own account of itself names the further sub-brands RedGol Fem, RedCarpet and RedNews, the last covering national and international news outside sport.[1] It also carries a betting section, which is set out on the front page as a distinct part of the offering.[2]
The competition its Chilean football coverage follows was announced by the ANFP on 22 January 2026 as the Liga de Primera Mercado Libre for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, with sixteen clubs, under a sponsorship the association said runs for those two seasons.[3] Its front page also carries the Champions League, the Europa League and the Spanish, English, Italian and German leagues, which places the domestic coverage inside a wider football offering rather than beside it.[2]
How large is RedGol's audience?
The site makes a claim about its own audience and no audited figure could be retrieved to test it. It describes itself as “el medio deportivo número uno de Chile y el tercer medio más leído a nivel general en web en el país”; that is the outlet's own characterisation, published without a measurement source or a date.[1] It is reported here as a claim and is not adopted.
The recognised digital measurement for the market is Comscore's multi-platform content measurement. In the figures Comscore published for Chile on 31 January 2023 the readings are category-level — a news-category penetration of “91,1%” and an average of “71.1 minutos al mes en sitios online de noticias” — with BioBio Chile named as the news-category leader by unique visitors over May to October 2022 and latercera.com as the site with the highest average minutes per visitor in October 2022; no figure for this site appears in it.[4] Traffic estimators are not audited measurement and are not used here.
Since when has RedGol existed?
The site gives 2009 as the year of its creation, together with the founding of the company Futbol Sites at the same time.[1] That is the outlet's own account; no independent source for the year could be retrieved for this page.
The ownership date is separate and is also the site's own statement: Futbol Sites is described as now part of Better Collective, which the same page dates to Denmark in 2004.[1] Creation of the site, founding of its operating company and its acquisition by a foreign group are three different events, and only the years the site itself gives are recorded here.
Why does RedGol matter in Chile's sport?
It is a sport-only Chilean publisher rather than the sports desk of a general title, with named sub-brands for women's sport and for sports beyond football, and it is foreign-owned through Better Collective by its own account.[1] That places it in the market RSF describes in its Chile file, where “Although the mass media seems to offer a degree of diversity, most of the outlets are owned by the same business groups”, and where RSF puts Chile 70th of 180 with a score of 60.84 in the 2026 Press Freedom Index.[5]
Its daily coverage runs across the ANFP competitions and the CONMEBOL club tournaments.[2][3] What can be said about its scale rests on its own statement about itself, which is why that statement is quoted here and left unadopted.[1]
