What is Point.md?

Point.md is a news portal. The Media Ownership Monitor Moldova 2024, published by Global Media Registry and Media Guard, opens its entry: “Point.md este un portal informational lansat de compania Simpals în 2006.” It states: “Portalul Point.md este gestionat de compania Simpals SRL, care este fondată de Dmitri Voloșin (90%) și Roman Știrbu (10%).”[2] That sentence names the company's founders and their shares as the Monitor recorded them in 2024; no later ownership document was retrieved. The Monitor classes the ownership as private, the content as free and the geographic coverage as transnational.[2]

On language and sourcing, the Monitor writes: “Conținutul publicat pe Point.md este preponderent în limba rusă și preluat de la alte instituții media.” It lists the sections of Point News: “politică, economie, societate, incidente, sport, lume, știință, lady, auto, afaceri”.[2] Its sport section sits at point.md/ru/novosti/sport, a path of the same domain, and when retrieved offered Russian as its language.[1]

What does Point.md cover?

The sport section is a single news stream in Russian. Its items of 11 to 24 September 2026 were mostly Moldovan results. They included “Молдавский боец завоевал бронзу на чемпионате Европы по боксу в Софии” (24 September), “Молдова завоевала бронзовую медаль на чемпионате мира по пляжному самбо” (14 September), “Молдавская тяжелоатлетка Чуботару стала чемпионкой мира среди студентов” and “Молдавские спортсмены завоевали два золота на ЧМ по муай-тай” (both 11 September).[1]

Beach soccer took two items: “Молдова обыграла Германию в Суперфинале чемпионата Европы по пляжному футболу” (11 September) and “Молдова проиграла Беларуси 1:6 в Суперфинале Евролиги по пляжному футболу” (13 September). The section also carried “В Молдове стартует Европейская неделя спорта” (15 September) and international football items on FIFA reform, the French national team and the Nations League.[1]

Those are two weeks' items, and they are headlines, not a statement of the section's scope.

How large is Point.md's audience?

BATI, the Biroul de Audit al Tirajelor si Internetului, publishes a monthly ranking of the websites in the gemiusAudience Moldova panel. Its report for August 2026, published on 5 September 2026, states that its data cover 25 sites in the gemiusAudience Moldova panel for that month.[4][5] The report places point.md fourth, with 281,448 real users, behind 999.md, noi.md and meteofor.md.[4] That is one month's reading for the whole domain, not for its sport section, and it covers only sites that take part in the panel.

BATI's report for July 2026, from the same panel of 25 sites, places point.md fifth, with 254,214 real users.[7] The two months' readings are given as published. Both count real users, the unit in which BATI ranks the sites, not page views or visits.

The Media Ownership Monitor's online page lists point.md among the top news sites on September 2024 data from BATI and Gemius, after noi.md and stiri.md.[3] Its outlet page states that point.md has been “în ultimii ani, în mod constant în top 5 al celor mai vizitate site-uri din R. Moldova, conform datelor oferite de Gemius Audience”, and reports the portal's own claim: “Pe site-ul point.md se spune că auditoriul său lunar constituie circa 2 milioane de utilizatori unici, iar site-ul este accesat de aproximativ 200 mii de utilizatori din Moldova zilnic.” Both figures are the portal's claims about itself, relayed by the Monitor.[2]

Since when has Point.md existed?

The Media Ownership Monitor gives 2006 as the year Point.md was founded, and states that the company Simpals launched it that year.[2] The sport section of the portal's own site, as retrieved, states no founding date.[1]

Why does Point.md matter in Moldova's sport?

It is a Russian-language portal with a measured national audience: fourth among the 25 sites in BATI's audited ranking for August 2026, and the Media Ownership Monitor lists it among the top news sites on September 2024 data.[4][3] Its sport section reports Moldovan results in Russian, among them, in September 2026, results in boxing, beach soccer, beach sambo, weightlifting and muay thai.[1]

The Monitor describes the online market in these words: “În R. Moldova există zeci de site-uri de știri, majoritatea dintre ele activând în capitala Republicii Moldova, la Chișinău.”[3] Reporters Without Borders ranks Moldova 31st of 180, with a score of 74.77, in its 2026 index, and states: “Freedom of the press and the right to information are guaranteed by law, and best practices are encouraged by a journalistic code of ethics.” Reporters Without Borders writes, under the heading “Economic context”: “Faced with a difficult economic environment and weakened by the collapse of the advertising market due to the war in Ukraine, independent media outlets lack resources and experience financial difficulties.”[6]
