What is the OWGR?
The Official World Golf Ranking is men's golf's ranking of record — published weekly since 1986 under a governing board drawn from the four major championships and the leading tours, covering results from two dozen sanctioned tours worldwide.[1]
How does it work?
Ranking points from every counting event, scaled by field strength, accumulate over a rolling two-year window with recent results weighted heaviest — and the ranking's cut lines directly fill the fields of the majors, the Players and the Olympics, which is precisely its power.[1] [2]
Why does it matter?
A golfer's OWGR history — position by week, published for four decades — is the sport's objective, dated record of standing, and the key that unlocks its biggest championships.[1] [2]
