What is Le Matin?
Le Matin is a French-language Moroccan daily published by Groupe Le Matin. The group's own page describes itself thus: “Groupe Le Matin est un acteur majeur dans le domaine de l'édition de l'information quotidienne au Maroc”, in print and electronic versions; that is its own characterisation.[1] It lists as its print titles Le Matin and Assahra Al Maghribia, and as its digital platforms lematin.ma, almaghribia.ma and sports.lematin.ma, with properties including Le Matin Sports, Les Imprimeries du Matin and MATIN TV.[1]
The group's management page states that Mohammed Haitami has led Groupe Le Matin since 2013, “épaulé par un directeur général adjoint et quatre directeurs”.[2] The home page names the publisher as Groupe le Matin and its PDG as Mohammed Haitami, and offers the print edition as an e-Paper; on 26 September 2026 the e-Paper on offer was dated 25 September 2026.[3]
The sports section, which the group lists as sports.lematin.ma, was read at the path lematin.ma/sports of the parent site.[1][4]
What does Le Matin cover?
Sections. The home page menu runs from Matin TV, royal activities and national news through the economy, the world, society, culture, the regions, employment and education to sports, motoring and columns.[3]
Items. On 27 September 2026 the section carried an item reporting that “le Wydad de Casablanca, le Maghreb de Fès et la RS Berkane lancent leur saison ce weekend”, an item on Morocco reaching a world billiards final after a win over Wales, and an item on Morocco's 2-0 win over Gabon in qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027.[4] Its football listing of 26 September 2026 carried “Botola : la LNFP fixe de nouvelles exigences pour valider les promotions en divisions professionnelles” and “Botola : l'Ittihad de Tanger domine Amal Tiznit et réussit son entrée en matière”, a futsal ranking item, a Jr. NBA/WNBA youth basketball item, an item on Morocco winning the Nations Cup at the Arab Optimist sailing championship in Jeddah, and “CAN U18 de Handball : le Maroc décroche le bronze et valide son billet pour le Mondial”.[5]
Broadcast guidance. On 3 August 2026 Le Matin published “CAN féminine 2026 : à quelle heure et sur quelles chaînes suivre le match Maroc-Sénégal ?”, giving a 9 p.m. kick-off at the Stade Moulay El Hassan in Rabat and naming Arryadia TNT, Al Aoula TNT and beIN Sports as broadcasters. It reported that Morocco had already qualified for the quarter-finals after wins over Kenya and Algeria.[6] On 2 June 2026, under the headline “Mondial 2026 : la SNRT obtient les droits de diffusion des matchs des Lions de l'Atlas”, it reported that the SNRT had obtained those rights “après des négociations menées avec le groupe beIN SPORTS, détenteur des droits de retransmission du Mondial pour la région Moyen-Orient et Afrique du Nord”.[7]
How large is Le Matin's audience?
Print circulation. Yabiladi reported on 23 May 2018 that data from the Office de justification de la diffusion (OJD – Maroc), whose own site could not be retrieved, showed Moroccan dailies distributing on average 191,527 copies in 2017, and wrote of the French-language dailies: “Le Matin est le quotidien le plus vendu avec 20 215 exemplaires quotidiens”. That is a 2017 figure from a secondary report; no later certified figure was retrieved.[8]
Online. No audited audience figure for lematin.ma was retrieved, and the group's own pages, as read, give none.[1][3] The site's footer lists accounts on Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and LinkedIn, with no follower figures.[4]
Since when has Le Matin existed?
The group's page states: “Groupe Le MATIN est profondément associé à l'histoire du Maroc”. It presents its history in a timeline image whose dates could not be extracted as text, so no founding year is given here.[1]
No independent source for the daily's founding date was retrieved.
Why does Le Matin matter in Morocco's sport?
Le Matin is a national French-language daily whose group runs a sports section, Le Matin Sports, covering the professional league and the national teams, and which publishes practical broadcast guidance for national-team matches, as it did for the women's team on 3 August 2026.[1][4][6]
Reporters Without Borders, whose 2026 index places Morocco at “105/ 180, Score : 50.55”, writes that “Independent media outlets, which are increasingly rare, find it hard to establish a stable financial footing that allows them to develop.” Its entry, as read, does not name Le Matin.[9] Those are RSF's words.
