What is ge?
ge is the sports portal of Grupo Globo, published by Globo Comunicação e Participações S.A. and reached at ge.globo.com. Its footer places the site inside Grupo Globo, and its "na TV" menu routes readers straight into the group's broadcast sport: the TV Globo programmes Globo Esporte, Esporte Espetacular and Segue o Jogo; the pay-television channel SporTV, with its own programme index running from Bem, Amigos! to Troca de Passes; the combat-sports channel Combate; and the Premiere pay-per-view service.[1]
That shared menu is the structural fact about Brazilian sports media. The Media Ownership Monitor Brasil study of 2017, produced by Global Media Registry with Intervozes, recorded Grupo Globo as wholly owned by the Marinho family through Organizações Globo Participações S.A., holding five owned broadcast stations and 118 affiliates, 33 pay-television channels through Globosat, and the globo.com digital properties including GloboEsporte.[2] A reader who sees a report on ge, a match on SporTV and a bulletin on TV Globo has seen three brands with one owner.
ge is a brand rather than a separate company. Its address is a subdomain of globo.com, the group's main web property, which is the registrable domain recorded for it here.[1] [2]
What does ge cover?
Football first and in depth. The section menu carries Série A and Série B, the Copa do Brasil, the women's Brazilian championship, the seleção, the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sul-Americana, the main European leagues, and tables for every state championship from the Acreano to the Tocantinense, with second and third divisions for several of them and a coaching-turnover tracker alongside.[1]
Beyond football the menu lists volleyball with Superliga tables in both sexes and the Nations League; basketball with the NBB, the LBF, the Champions League das Américas and the NBA; Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula E, Stock Car and motorcycling; surfing with WSL rankings; tennis; mixed martial arts through Combate; and standing sections for athletics, swimming, judo, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, skateboarding with SLS and STU, futsal, handball, bodybuilding and the NFL. Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American and Winter Games sections run alongside them, with medal tables and schedules.[1]
Two further layers matter. ge publishes regional editions under "seu estado" for all five regions, every state and the Federal District, and it operates Cartola, a fantasy football game with its own statistics service.[1]
What are ge's reach and standing?
Digital measurement puts it first. Propmark, reporting comScore's sports category for the period January 2025 to June 2026, listed Globo Esportes ahead of ESPN, UOL Esporte, Better Collective and Lance! Sites; the article's subject was Lance!'s climb from tenth place to fifth, and the top place in that ranking is Globo's.[3]
On the broadcast side the figures are the group's own. In a December 2025 release reported by MKT Esportivo, Globo said Kantar data put the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro's total reach at about 156 million people and its own share of that audience at 94 per cent across free-to-air television, SporTV, Premiere and the ge TV channel, with 50 million watching Globo transmissions exclusively and 18 million of those aged between 12 and 34. The same release said ge TV reached 12 million people across the 14 matches it carried.[4] Those numbers were issued by the broadcaster and attributed by it to Kantar; no independent audit of them was retrieved.
Since when?
The portal's start date is harder to establish than its present position. The Portuguese-language Wikipedia article on ge, used here as background only, dates the launch to 2003 under the name Esporte na Globo, records GloboEsporte.com from 2005 to 2020 and the change to "ge" in July 2020; none of those three statements carries a reference on that page, and this page could not confirm them from a primary source.[5] What is documented is that the Media Ownership Monitor's 2017 study already listed GloboEsporte among the globo.com properties, so the portal predates that survey.[2]
The rights behind it are datable. Under the 2026 Campeonato Brasileiro arrangement, Globo holds the Libra clubs' package exclusively across TV Globo, SporTV, Premiere, ge TV and Globoplay, and also takes matches from Liga Forte União clubs — nine a round in all, eight of them exclusive and one co-transmitted with Record and CazéTV, with one match a round compulsorily on free-to-air television.[6] [7] Globo regained free-to-air Copa Libertadores rights for 2027 through 2030, with 19 matches a season including the final.[8] Formula 1 returned to Globo and SporTV for 2026 under a three-year agreement with Liberty Media running to the end of 2028.[9]
Why does ge matter in Brazil's sport?
Because it is the point where one group's reporting and its broadcast rights meet on the same page. A match in the Libra package is bought by Globo, shown on TV Globo, SporTV, Premiere or ge TV, and written up on ge, all within Globo Comunicação e Participações.[1] [6]
That has a practical consequence for anyone assembling evidence of coverage. Citing a report on ge, a broadcast on SporTV and a bulletin on TV Globo is citing one owner three times rather than three independent outlets; the Marinho family's ownership of the group was recorded at 100 per cent by the Media Ownership Monitor Brasil study in 2017.[2]
The portal indexes Brazilian competition broadly, carrying state-championship tables for every state alongside the Campeonato Brasileiro, the Copa Libertadores, the volleyball Superliga and the NBB.[1] For the fastest-decaying claims — who may show which match — the term dates above are the ones to check, because carriage in Brazil has changed hands repeatedly.
