What is FreeNews TV?
FreeNews TV is an Armenian television company whose online edition publishes at freenews.am under the name Լուրեր Հայաստանից - FreeNews.[1] Its standing sections are Տեսանյութեր, Քաղաքականություն, Տնտեսություն, Պաշտոնական, Աշխարհ and Սպորտ, and it was carrying items dated 22 and 23 September 2026 when it was retrieved.[1]
The site's footer gives an address at «ք. Երևան 0025, Ալ.Մյասնիկյան 1/4» and a copyright line reading “Copyright © 2020 - 2024 Freenews - Բոլոր իրավունքները պաշտպանված են.”[1]
Media Ownership Monitor Armenia records the operating company as FreeNews LLC, states that it was founded in 2020 and that it received a broadcasting licence for Yerevan in 2021, and is one of the ten television companies in the monitor's 2025 study.[2][3]
On ownership the monitor is specific and dated: Hasmik Danielyan holds 100 per cent as at 27 December 2024, and Armen Ghalechyan held a 51 per cent majority stake from May 2021 until December 2024, when he returned his share to Danielyan.[2]
What does FreeNews TV cover?
The output is general news. The site's own section list runs Videos, Politics, Economics, Official, World, Sport, Society, Artsakh, Legal, Entertainment, Good News, Ukraine and Media, and it was publishing on 23 September 2026.[1]
The sport position is defined by a dated agreement rather than by the section alone. Armenpress reported at 15:26 on 7 August 2026 that the Football Federation of Armenia had agreed a partnership under which Armenian Premier League matches would be broadcast by Free News TV, with coverage available across Yerevan, and quoted the federation saying that “negotiations are ongoing to also broadcast Armenian Premier League matches on a television channel with nationwide coverage” and that it “continues its efforts to expand broadcasting opportunities for the Armenian Premier League.”[4] That report does not state the number of matches, the competitions covered or the term of the agreement, and none is given here.[4]
How large is FreeNews TV's audience?
No audited audience figure could be retrieved. Media Ownership Monitor Armenia's profile of the outlet records missing data for audience share, revenue, operating profit, advertising percentage and market share.[2]
The monitor states that “Armenia's television industry has operated without reliable audience gauging for nearly a decade, creating a crisis that affects millions of dollars in advertising revenue”, names Admospher-Armenia LLC, founded in 2015 with the Czech firm Nielsen Admosphere, as the provider that filled the gap, and records a memorandum of cooperation on television audience measurement signed on 7 August 2025 between Armenia's Media Industrial Committee and Inditronics Media Private Limited.[5] The broadcast reach stated for the league agreement is geographic rather than measured: coverage across Yerevan, with the federation saying it was still seeking a channel with nationwide coverage.[4]
Media Ownership Monitor Armenia's commentary on this outlet records that it is “frequently described as affiliated with the ruling Civil Contract party”, notes that its director “was, until recently, the wife of National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan”, and states that “a former owner, who exited at the end of 2024, was also known to have ties to Civil Contract and its members.”[2] Those are the monitor's words and are carried here attributed. Reporters Without Borders placed Armenia 50th of 180 in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index with a score of 67.02.[6]
Since when has FreeNews TV existed?
Two dates are recorded and they are different things. Media Ownership Monitor Armenia gives the founding of the company as 2020 and the grant of a broadcasting licence for Yerevan as 2021.[2] The site's own footer runs its copyright line from 2020.[1]
The sport relationship is more recent still and is anchored to 7 August 2026, the date of the report of the federation partnership.[4] Broadcast arrangements go stale faster than corporate records and that claim should be read as of that date.
Why does FreeNews TV matter in Armenia's sport?
On the retrieved record it is the channel named for live coverage of the country's top football division, which is the single documented domestic-rights position in Armenian sport.[4]
Its ownership history is documented to the day by a named monitoring body, including the change of December 2024, which is unusual in this market and makes the outlet's position checkable rather than inferred.[2] The monitor's characterisations of its political affiliation are carried above in the monitor's own words.[2]
Its reach for that football coverage was stated as Yerevan, with the federation saying it was still seeking a channel with nationwide coverage — a limitation stated by the federation itself and not resolved by any audited figure.[4][5]
