What is ESPN Argentina?
ESPN Argentina is the Argentine edition of ESPN, published at espn.com.ar, together with the ESPN channels distributed in the country[1]. ESPN's own press room states that its pan-regional Latin American network launched in 1989, that it reaches 42 countries and territories and more than twenty million homes in the region, and that ESPN handles advertising and affiliate sales for Walt Disney Television International Latin America[2].
The pay channel that carries the domestic football package is ESPN Premium. Chequeado describes the Argentine first-division arrangement as a closed pay-television model in which ESPN Premium, owned by Disney, and TNT Sports, which Chequeado attributes to Turner, each carry half of every matchday through the cable Pack Fútbol[3].
A country-specific entity is the right unit here: espn.com.ar is a separate registrable domain from ESPN's other editions, and ESPN Premium is an Argentina-only channel with an Argentina-only rights package.
What does ESPN Argentina cover?
Domestic football first. Señal News reported in April 2025 that ESPN Premium and TNT Sports Premium had each transmitted half the matches of every Liga Profesional matchday since 2017, and that ESPN also released two matches per matchday on basic cable channels[4]. La Gaceta reported the same split and noted that ESPN had made individual matches available outside the premium package[5].
Continental club football sits alongside it. ESPN's press room announced on 12 December 2025 that CONMEBOL had extended the CONMEBOL Libertadores, the CONMEBOL Sudamericana and the CONMEBOL Recopa to ESPN for the 2027 to 2030 seasons across Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, on linear channels and the Disney+ Plan Premium[6].
The site itself carries the wider ESPN mix, including international football, basketball, tennis and motorsport[1].
What are ESPN Argentina's reach and standing?
On the web, Semrush recorded 8.15 million monthly visits to espn.com.ar in August 2026, fourth in its Sports category for Argentina behind promiedos.com.ar, ole.com.ar and tycsports.com[7].
On pay television, TotalMedios reported Kantar IBOPE Media figures for July 2026 placing ESPN eighth among cable channels on 0.64 rating points, in a month led by TyC Sports on 2.37 and with DSports fifth on 1.37[8]. Those figures cover the basic ESPN feed; the ESPN Premium football package is distributed as a separate paid tier and is not broken out in that table.
The two measures describe different things. The website is a free general sports site competing with Olé and TyC Sports for readers, while the channel's weight in Argentina comes from a paid football tier that is not separately rated.
Its standing rests less on audience than on the rights it holds. ESPN Premium's share of the first division has run continuously since 2017 under a term Señal News reported as extending to 2030, with TNT Sports Premium extended to 2031[4].
Since when?
ESPN's press room dates its Latin American network to 1989[2]. The Argentine first-division arrangement dates from 2017: Señal News and La Gaceta both record that ESPN Premium and TNT Sports Premium have split the Liga Profesional matchday since that year, and that the closed pay-television model has been unchanged since then[4] [5].
Two term dates were fixed in 2025. On 7 April 2025 Señal News reported that TNT Sports Premium had extended from 2027 to 2031, with ESPN Premium holding an option to extend from 2030 to 2031[4]; Chequeado's February 2026 explainer states the positions as ESPN Premium to 2030 and TNT Sports to 2031[3]. The two accounts differ on ESPN Premium's end date, and both are reported here.
On 12 December 2025 CONMEBOL extended its club competitions to ESPN for the 2027 to 2030 seasons[6].
Why does ESPN Argentina matter in Argentina's sport?
Because it holds rights rather than only reporting on them. As of September 2026 the Liga Profesional reaches Argentine viewers through ESPN Premium and TNT Sports Premium and through no other channel[3], and from the 2027 season the Copa Libertadores runs through ESPN and Disney+ across CONMEBOL's territory[6].
That position also sets the boundary of the country's largest sports audience. La Nación reported in May 2026 that for the 2026 FIFA World Cup ESPN carried 30 matches through the Disney+ Plan Premium, while DSports held all 104 and the free-to-air matches went to Telefe and Televisión Pública[9].
The website is a working record of those arrangements as well: ESPN published CONMEBOL's extension through its own Argentine edition, which is where a reader would find the announcement dated and attributed[1] [6].
