What is Télévision Algérienne (EPTV)?

The Télévision Algérienne is the public television company. Algérie Presse Service (APS), the state news agency, names it “L'Entreprise publique de télévision (EPTV)”.[2] Its website, entv.dz, is titled “الواجهة | التلفزيون الجزائري”, the Algerian Television.[1]

The site lists nine channels numbered TV1 to TV9: El Oula (TV1), Canal Algérie (TV2), the news channel Al Ikhbaria (TV3), the Amazigh-language channel (TV4), a Quran channel (TV5), a youth channel (TV6), a knowledge channel (TV7), a memory channel (TV8) and a parliamentary channel (TV9). Sports news is published under a category path of the same site, entv.dz/ar/blog/categories/ryadt.[1]

The decree that established the company, and any statutes setting out its public-service mission, could not be retrieved in a readable text from the Journal Officiel.

What does Télévision Algérienne (EPTV) cover?

The 2026 FIFA World Cup. That is, the EPTV acquired from beIN Sports the rights to Algeria's matches and to a number of other matches.[2] TSA reported the number, citing the broadcaster's own statement on social media: “La Télévision algérienne a réussi à obtenir les droits de retransmission de 13 matchs de la Coupe du monde 2026.”[3] The tournament ended in July 2026; the reports are from before it began.

The national team. As retrieved on 27 September 2026, the sports category of entv.dz led with items on the football national team's qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. They included one dated 25 September 2026 headlined “الخضر يستهلون مشوارهم بثلاثية في شباك زامبيا ويتصدرون المجموعة”, on a three-goal win over Zambia, and one dated 26 September 2026 reporting a federation statement on a player leaving the squad's training camp.[1]

No current EPTV rights agreement for the domestic Ligue 1 Mobilis was retrieved.

How large is Télévision Algérienne (EPTV)'s audience?

No audited television-audience currency for Algeria was found, and no current audience figure for the EPTV's channels was retrieved. That is a limitation of the evidence.

The most recent measured reading retrieved is ten years old and covers one week. DIA and Algerie360 reported on 4 July 2016 a survey by the institute IMMAR. Algerie360 describes it as carried out “durant la première semaine du mois de Ramadhan” on an “échantillon de 2.480 individus (51 % hommes et 49% femmes) âgés de plus de 15 ans, répartis en milieu urbain (81%) et rural (19%)”.[5]

DIA reports the national result as “48% pour les chaînes privées et 12% pour les chaînes relevant de l'Entreprise publique de la Télévision algérienne (EPTV)”.[4] It gives the channel then called TV3 at 13 per cent in urban areas and 16.5 per cent in rural areas.[4] These are one week's readings from 2016, taken in Ramadan, and not figures for sport.

Since when has Télévision Algérienne (EPTV) existed?

No founding date for the Télévision Algérienne or for the EPTV as a company could be established from a source retrieved. The site entv.dz carries no history page that could be read, and the 1991 issues of the Journal Officiel, in which public broadcasting decrees of that period were published, are served as scanned images from which no text could be extracted.[1]

What can be dated is the company's name in current use: APS called it “L'Entreprise publique de télévision (EPTV)” on 4 June 2026, and TSA called it “La Télévision algérienne” in its report of the same month.[2][3] The 2016 IMMAR report used “l'Entreprise publique de la Télévision algérienne (EPTV)”.[4]

Why does Télévision Algérienne (EPTV) matter in Algeria's sport?

It is the public television company, and in 2026 it acquired from beIN Sports, as APS reported, the rights to broadcast Algeria's matches at the FIFA World Cup.[2]

The media law. Loi organique n° 23-14 of 27 August 2023 relative à l'information, published in the Journal Officiel n° 56 of 29 August 2023, provides in article 4 that information activities are carried on by media belonging to “des institutions publiques et les entreprises et organismes du secteur public”, to political parties, associations and trade-union organisations within the limits set by the laws governing them, and to Algerian natural persons or legal persons whose capital or shareholders are, in the article's word, “exclusivement” Algerian. Article 12 provides that any outlet receiving funding or material aid “doit être lié organiquement à l'organisme donateur”, and its second paragraph reads: “Le financement et/ou l'aide matérielle directe et indirecte de toute partie étrangère sont interdits, sous peine des sanctions pénales prévues par la loi.”[6]

The monitor. Reporters Without Borders ranks Algeria 145th of 180 in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index, with a score of 37.38, against 126th in 2025. Its country page states: “In addition, government subsidies are granted only to state-owned media or to privately owned media outlets that support the government.” It also states: “The media landscape in Algeria has never been so deteriorated.”[7] Those are the monitor's words.
