What is Dot Esports?
Dot Esports is an esports and gaming news site founded in December 2013 as the esports section of The Daily Dot with Kevin Morris as its first editor-in-chief, and sold with its eight-person team to GAMURS Group — a Sydney-based games-media company co-founded in December 2014 by Riad Chikhani — on 28 October 2016. It has a named masthead led by managing editor Jerome Heath.[1] [2] [3] [4]
What does it cover?
Tournament coverage, roster moves, previews and results across the major titles — Call of Duty, League of Legends, Valorant, Fortnite, Counter-Strike, Dota 2, Apex, Mobile Legends, Overwatch — alongside general gaming news, guides and patch notes, daily. Since 2024 it also runs an “iGaming reviews” section with its own lead editor and a Maltese postal address on the About page.[1]
What is its reach and standing?
The site states “more than 1.5 million readers” a month and 20,000-plus articles; no audit was found. Its recent history is the caveat: GAMURS cut thirty staff across Dot Esports, Destructoid and Twinfinite on 27 September 2024, blaming Google’s Helpful Content update, after a 2023 walkout at its sister title The Escapist.[1] [4] [5]
Since when?
December 2013 at The Daily Dot; GAMURS since October 2016 (announced 1 November 2016).[2] [3] [4]
Why does it matter in esports?
Because it is one of the few remaining outlets that covers esports across games rather than one title, with bylines. Cite it for a tournament report or a roster move; note the ownership and the gambling vertical when citing it for standing.[1]
