What is Diwan FM?

Diwan FM (راديو الديوان) is a private radio station. HAICA, the audiovisual regulator, lists it among the sixteen private radio stations on its register page.[1]

HAICA's page for the station gives its company as “شركة الديوان للإنتاج السمعي البصري”, whose name translates as Diwan Audiovisual Production Company, and its broadcasting centre as “مدينة صفاقس”, the city of Sfax. It gives the station's contact address on the domain diwanfm.net.[2]

HAICA's page names the company but not its shareholders, and no shareholder register was retrieved, so no ownership statement is made here. The station's own site failed a certificate check and could not be read.

What does Diwan FM cover?

HAICA gives the station's broadcasting area as “مناطق ولايات صفاقس وتونس الكبرى (ولايات تونس وأريانة ومنوبة وبن عروس) والطريق السيارة تونس- صفاقس”: the governorates of Sfax and of Greater Tunis, which it lists as Tunis, Ariana, Manouba and Ben Arous, and the Tunis–Sfax motorway.[2] Sfax, the station's broadcasting centre, was one of the host cities of the 2005 IHF Men's World Championship, as were Rades, Tunis and Sousse.[6]

Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 entry for Tunisia, writes: “While coverage of political issues has been significantly reduced across almost all media outlets, the radio station Diwan FM has managed to maintain a balanced, critical approach to the political news cycle.” That is RSF's characterisation of its political coverage.[4]

Because the station's own site could not be read, no sport programme, sports section or broadcast-rights holding is documented here, and no statement is made about which sports it covers.

How large is Diwan FM's audience?

Radio audiences in Tunisia are surveyed by SIGMA Conseil, which describes its radio measurement as “enquêtes quotidiennes sur l'écoute de la veille auprès des individus représentant les différentes classes d'âge”, daily surveys of the previous day's listening, run over four weeks a month across the national territory.[8] Its own reports of the figures were not retrieved, so the figures here are as the trade press reported them.

June 2025. That is, it placed Diwan FM at 3.9 per cent, within a top five that it describes as concentrating the audience.[3] The same article gives Mosaïque FM a daily reach of 12.6 per cent; it does not define the measure behind the 3.9 per cent figure separately.[3]

No earlier Sigma Conseil figure for Diwan FM was retrieved; Agence Ecofin's January 2014 report of Sigma Conseil's figures names six stations and does not include it.[7] No audited traffic figure for diwanfm.net was retrieved.

Since when has Diwan FM existed?

No founding or first-broadcast date for the station was retrieved: HAICA's station page carries no date field, and the station's own site could not be read.[2]

The earliest dated record of the station among the sources retrieved is the Media Ownership Monitor for Tunisia, published in 2016 by Reporters Without Borders and Al Khatt, which lists Diwan FM among the fourteen radio stations it analysed.[5]

Why does Diwan FM matter in Tunisia's sport?

It is a private station broadcasting from Sfax, for which HAICA gives a broadcasting area of Sfax and Greater Tunis, and in SIGMA Conseil's June 2025 figures, as reported, it was one of the five stations the article places in the top group.[2][3]

It is also one of the outlets Reporters Without Borders names in its 2026 entry. RSF ranks Tunisia 137th of 180 with a score of 40.43. RSF's entry opens its account of the media landscape: “The media landscape has grown more diverse since the 2011 revolution. But the economic crisis has undermined the independence of many newsrooms, which are subject to political and economic interests.” In the passage that names Diwan FM, RSF adds that podcasts and debates offered by Alqatiba, Rachma and Nawaat are gaining popularity, and that the French-language news site Business News “is also establishing itself as an alternative in an increasingly constrained media landscape.” RSF describes the economic context in these words: “The media depends on private sector advertisers, including some who have shares in the media and ties with political figures — a situation that undermines editorial independence.” RSF also writes: “The deterioration of the political environment continues with Decree-Law 54 of September 2022, which is meant to combat "fake news" but poses a new major threat to press freedom.”[4] Those are RSF's statements.
