What is Diez?

Diez, which prints its name as Diario Deportivo Diez, is a sports newspaper and website published in Honduras. Its own page states: “DIEZ forma parte de Organización Publicitaria, S.A. (Grupo OPSA), con sede en San Pedro Sula.” It also states: “Bajo el respaldo y la visión de Grupo OPSA, la marca ha impulsado el desarrollo del deporte nacional”.[2] The ownership statement is the outlet's own, read on 26 September 2026; no register of media ownership in Honduras was retrieved.

The same page names Jorge Canahuati Larach as president of Grupo Opsa.[2] La Prensa, a title of the same group, explained the name in 2010: “La sigla OPSA significa Organización Publicitaria Sociedad Anónima, que desde su nacimiento es la casa editora de LA PRENSA y diario Diez.”[3] The footer of El Heraldo, a third title, lists Diez among the group's publications with La Prensa, Revista Estilo, Buen Provecho and Revista E&N.[4]

The site is at diez.hn, its own domain. Its copyright line reads “Diario Diez- Todos los derechos reservados ©”.[1]

What does Diez cover?

As retrieved on 26 September 2026, the site's menu listed Liga Nacional, Internacionales, Estadísticas, Partidos de hoy, La Selección, Champions League, Legionarios, Videos, Fotogalerías, Centroamérica, No todo es fútbol, Segunda división, MLS, Fútbol mexicano and Fútbol femenino. Most of the named sections are football competitions or teams, and one is headed “No todo es fútbol”, not everything is football.[1]

Its lead items that day concerned the domestic league, the Honduran national team before a match in Jamaica, the Concacaf Nations League and Real Madrid. The digital front page shown on the site was dated “viernes 25 de sep de 2026”.[1]

The domestic league it covers is the Liga Hondubet, which states that its Apertura 2026-2027 began on 31 July 2026 with twelve clubs in two geographic groups.[5] Diez's own page lists, among its areas, the Liga Nacional, the national team, international football, Central American competitions, the second division and women's football, together with statistics and match schedules.[2]

How large is Diez's audience?

No television-audience currency, audited readership survey or web audit covering Honduran outlets was found, and the broadcasting market study posted by the competition authority, the Comisión para la Defensa y Promoción de la Competencia (CDPC), could not be retrieved. No audited figure for Diez was found.

Diez's own page states: “La influencia de DIEZ se extiende con fuerza a las redes sociales, donde su comunidad supera los millones de seguidores.” It gives no figure and no date for that statement, and it is the outlet's own claim.[2]

The only circulation statement retrieved is sixteen years old and comes from a sister title. La Prensa wrote on 20 August 2010: “Diez es ahora mismo el segundo periódico en circulación en San Pedro Sula y zona Norte, después de LA PRENSA, y el tercero en Tegucigalpa”. It named no measuring body.[3] It is the group's account of its own title, and no later figure was retrieved.

Since when has Diez existed?

Diez's own page states: “Desde su nacimiento el 27 de mayo de 2006, ha transformado la manera en que los hondureños consumen y viven la pasión por el deporte”.[2] The characterisation in that sentence is the outlet's own.

La Prensa's 2010 account of the group gives the month but not the day: “En mayo del 2006 nace el primer periódico deportivo en Honduras, diario Diez”.[3] The claim to have been the first sports newspaper in Honduras is the group's own and was not checked against an independent source. The two accounts agree on May 2006.

The same 2010 article dated the group's other daily titles: La Prensa to 1964, and El Heraldo, founded fifteen years later, to 1979.[3]

Why does Diez matter in Honduras's sport?

Diez is a daily title devoted to sport, published by the group that also publishes the general dailies La Prensa and El Heraldo.[2][4] Its site organises its coverage around the Liga Nacional, the national team and Honduran players abroad, and it was publishing on 26 September 2026, with a front page dated the day before.[1]

Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 index, places Honduras 132nd of 180. Its media-landscape entry opens: “Media pluralism has been undermined by multinational corporations taking over major outlets and political and business leaders acquiring local newsrooms.” It names “La Prensa, El Heraldo and La Tribuna” as the country's leading papers and does not name Diez.[6] Those are the monitor's statements.
