What is DAZN Italia?

DAZN is a subscription sports streaming service; DAZN Italia is the Italian arm of it, and its principal property in Italy is Serie A. In its announcement of 12 January 2024 the company stated that it had secured “the domestic rights to Italian's most important club competition, and will continue to be the only platform to broadcast the entire Serie A TIM live”.[1] That is the company's own description of its position and is carried here with its attribution.

The rights themselves were awarded by the Lega Serie A assembly on Monday 23 October 2023, which gave the five seasons from 2024-25 to 2028-29 to DAZN and Sky for about 900 million euro a season to the clubs — approximately 700 million from DAZN and 200 million from Sky. Seventeen club presidents voted in favour, Cagliari and Salernitana against, and Napoli abstained.[2]

The service is delivered over the internet rather than over a broadcast platform, which is what makes its audience measurement, described below, different in kind from a conventional channel's.[3]

What does DAZN Italia cover?

Under the current cycle DAZN stated on 12 January 2024 that it holds seven exclusive matches a matchday, 266 a season, and three co-exclusive matches, 114 a season, for a total of 380 matches — the whole of Serie A.[1] The report of the Lega Serie A award of 23 October 2023 describes the same split from the other side, three matches a round to Sky.[2]

The coverage is delivered match by match with audiences reported for each fixture, which is why the Audicom reports below list results by individual game rather than by channel.[4]

ANSA's sport service reported on 13 January 2026 that matchday 20 of the 2025-26 season on DAZN approached 6.67 million viewers, the second most-watched matchday of that season, with Inter against Napoli drawing 2.1 million.[6] Beyond Serie A, no further Italian rights held by the service as at 19 September 2026 could be confirmed from a source retrieved for this page, and none is claimed here.

How large is DAZN Italia's audience?

Audicom publishes a Total Audience Serie A DAZN report after each matchday, within 24 hours of the end of the round's programming; reports for matchdays 1 to 4 of the 2026-27 season were published on 27 August, 1 September, 9 September and 15 September 2026.[3] The method is set out in the reports: DAZN viewing is “tutti di origine censuaria, misurati tramite SDK Auditel, su tutti i dispositivi” — entirely census-based, measured through the Auditel software development kit across all devices — while satellite platform channels are measured through the Auditel SuperPanel sample.[3][4]

The report for matchday 10 of the 2025-26 season, played from 1 to 3 November 2025, gives average minute ratings net of half-time for each of the ten matches, ranging from 62,396 for Torino against Pisa to 2,396,708 for Milan against Roma.[4]

For a longer period, Calcio e Finanza reported on 16 January 2026 that DAZN had drawn 112.2 million cumulative viewers across the first half of the 2025-26 season, 18.4 per cent above the same point of 2024-25, against more than 27 million for Sky, on the Auditel total audience system in use since 2022-23.[5] No subscriber figure for the Italian service could be retrieved for this page, and none is stated here.

One further caution applies to any domain-level ranking. DAZN publishes its Italian service on dazn.com, the operator’s single global domain, which carries its other national services as locale paths rather than on separate national domains. A rank for dazn.com therefore measures the operator worldwide, not the Italian service.

Since when has DAZN Italia existed?

SportsPro reported on 14 June 2018 that DAZN launched in Italy with exclusive domestic Serie A rights covering the 2018-19 to 2020-21 seasons, 114 matches a season, with Sky holding the larger package of 266 matches over the same period, and described the award as the first time a purely live and on-demand streaming service had been given exclusive Serie A rights in Italy.[7]

The packages were later reversed in size. Under the cycle awarded on 23 October 2023 and announced by DAZN on 12 January 2024, DAZN carries all 380 matches a season and Sky the three co-exclusive matches a round.[1][2]

That cycle runs to the end of the 2028-29 season. It had not expired or been re-tendered as at 19 September 2026, and the 2026-27 Serie A season is being played under it, with Audicom's matchday reports for that season published from 27 August 2026 onwards.[3]

Why does DAZN Italia matter in Italy's sport?

Every Serie A match in the current cycle is available on one service, and seven of the ten each round are available only there.[1] That is a structural change in how Italian league football reaches its audience, and the price of it is on the record: about 700 million euro a season of the roughly 900 million paid to the clubs.[2]

It has also changed how the audience is counted. Because streaming viewing is measured census-style through the Auditel software development kit rather than by panel, Audicom's match-by-match reports give a per-fixture average minute rating for every Serie A game, published within a day of the round.[3][4] That is a finer-grained public record of football viewing than the Italian market had before the 2022-23 change of method.[5]

The scale of the aggregate is what the season figures show: 112.2 million cumulative viewers on DAZN across the first half of 2025-26, and more than 139 million across both platforms.[5] Those figures count viewers across matches, not distinct individuals, which is how the measurement system reports them.
