What is Dan?
Dan is a Montenegrin daily newspaper with a news portal at dan.co.me. The portal's menu runs from news and Montenegro through sport, entertainment, tourism, culture and magazine to a Serbia section and a world section, and it links two radio stations, Radio D and Radio D+.[1]
The Media Ownership Monitor Montenegro, in its 2023 profile, names Jumedia Mont d.o.o. as the company and states that it has three shareholders: Mladen Milutinović with 50 per cent and Slavica Jovanović and Vojin Jovanović with 25 per cent each.[2] The Monitor records that its team contacted the outlet on 18 August 2023. It names Mladen Milutinović as co-owner and executive director of Jumedia Mont and as editor-in-chief of Dan, and gives the paper's price as 0.70 EUR.[2]
The AMU's ownership platform, transparentnostmedija.me, retrieved on 24 September 2026, lists Jumedia Mont d.o.o. as the provider of Radio D and gives the same three holders: Milutinović Mladen with 50 per cent and Jovanović Slavica and Jovanović Vojin with 25 per cent each. The platform states that its data were supplied by the media founders.[8] The AMU register lists Radio D, founded by “Jumedia Mont” d.o.o. and directed by Mladen Milutinović, under approval O-R-K-10 issued on 21 July 2011, with regional FM coverage.[9]
The Monitor names as related outlets the magazine Revija D, Radio D, and an affiliated Radio D plus. It gives Dan four hearts in its active-transparency rating, a grade it defines as “company/channel informs proactively and comprehensively about its ownership, data is constantly updated and easily verifiable”.[2]
What does Dan cover?
Dan's sport section, at dan.co.me/sport, is divided into football, basketball, tennis and other sports.[3]
Its headlines on 23 September 2026 covered domestic club sport and the national teams. In basketball it reported that Budućnost VOLI would open its ABA League season on Friday, 25 September, at the Morača hall, and that five ABA League clubs had sought an urgent meeting of the league's owners with referees. As retrieved on 24 September 2026, the section also carried undated basketball items on Budućnost VOLI's presentation of its squad for the season and its win at a tournament in Sarajevo. In football it carried the national team's preparation for the UEFA Nations League, in the words of a player: “U dobrom smo ritmu, jedva čekamo da krene Liga nacija”. It also carried Petrovac's appointment of Zoran Đurašković as coach, and an item announcing ticket sales for the national team's matches against Cyprus and Armenia.[3]
The same day's section reported water polo, “Vaterpolisti Budve pobijedili Primorac u Kotoru”, handball, “Poraz rukometaša Budvanske rivijere u Skoplju”, a junior kickboxing bronze and the chess teams' wins at an Olympiad. It also carried international football and tennis items.[3] That is one day's reading of the section.
How large is Dan's audience?
No audited readership or web figure for Dan was retrieved. The Media Ownership Monitor's profile lists its audience data as missing and states that there is no credible centralised audience measuring mechanism in Montenegro.[2] A study dated October 2025, prepared with the OSCE Mission's support and published on the AMU's website, states: “Zasada u Crnoj Gori ne postoji usuglašen i industrijski općeprihvaćen jedinstveni sustav mjerenja gledanosti/slušanosti medija.”[4]
The Monitor's print list gives Dan a trust figure of 22.2 per cent, citing a 2023 survey by the Digital Forensics Center.[5] That is a measure of trust, not of readership.
For print as a whole, Radio Televizija Budva reported on 28 December 2025 on an Ipsos survey for the AMU, carried out from 25 October to 11 November on 1,041 respondents. It found that “dnevni domet štampe je tek oko šest odsto”.[6] The same report states: “Kao glavni izvor informisanja među digitalnim izdanjima medija dominantan izvor su Vijesti, CDM, Dan, RTCG, portal Analitika.” It gives no separate figure for Dan.[6]
Since when has Dan existed?
The Media Ownership Monitor states that “Dan is a daily newspaper published in Montenegro since 1999”.[2] No founding date was found on the portal's own pages retrieved, and no first-issue date is given here.[1] The Monitor names Duško Jovanović as the paper's founder and editor-in-chief and states that he “was assassinated in 2004 in Podgorica”.[2]
Why does Dan matter in Montenegro's sport?
Dan is one of the national dailies with a standing sport section. Its sport page on the build date carried the domestic federations' business, such as a session of the basketball federation's assembly, alongside the clubs' regional competitions and the national teams.[3]
The wider market is monitored. Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 Index, states that Montenegro “has dozens of registered media outlets, including several daily newspapers, national private and public TV channels and one news agency”.[7] The passage does not name Dan.
