What is Búsqueda?
Búsqueda is a Montevideo news publication with its own sports desk. Its pages give its address as Pablo de María 1042 in Montevideo and its access model as subscription-based.[1] The Deportes section describes itself as “Noticias deportivas, análisis, resultados. Golf - Fútbol”.[2]
The publication's own “Sobre Búsqueda” page states that “En enero de 1972 se imprimió el primer ejemplar de Búsqueda”; that is the publication's account of its own origin and it is reported here as such.[8] The same page names neither a founder nor a publishing company, and no ownership statement for the publication could be retrieved from a source read for this page.[8]
What does Búsqueda cover?
The Deportes index read on 23 September 2026 carried items on the match ball adopted for the 2026 Uruguayan championship, on government efforts over CONMEBOL's sponsorship rules for the Copa Libertadores final, on the FIFA presidency, on the return of police units to stadiums, on interior football's claim on sports-betting funds, and on Lionel Messi's announcement of his retirement from the Argentina national team after the 2026 World Cup.[2]
The desk's sustained subject in the period covered here is the commercial governance of Uruguayan football. On 27 November 2025 it reported, under the byline of Juan Francisco Pittaluga, that Tenfield intended to match the offer of the consortium of Antel and Team Sports Media in order to secure streaming for four more years, and that the deadline to do so was 19 December against an offer of about US$ 17 million a year.[3] On 22 December 2025 it reported the resolved tender lot by lot.[1]
How large is Búsqueda's audience?
No audited circulation or digital audience figure for Búsqueda could be retrieved for this page, and none is given. The recognised Uruguayan measurement currencies encountered in this research measure television and radio — Kantar Ibope Media and Factum respectively — and neither measures this publication.[4]
What the pages themselves record is that access is by subscription, which is a statement about the business model and not about reach.[1] Traffic estimators are not audited measurement and are not used here; the absence of a figure is a limitation of the retrievable evidence and is recorded as such rather than replaced by an estimate.
One indirect indication of the desk's standing can be given without a measurement: its lot-by-lot figures for the AUF tender were reported independently of, and on a different date from, the parallel accounts in El Observador of 9 December 2025 and in Montevideo Portal of 3 December 2025, and the three can be read against one another.[5][6]
Since when has Búsqueda existed?
The publication's own “Sobre Búsqueda” page gives the date of the first issue: “En enero de 1972 se imprimió el primer ejemplar de Búsqueda”. That is the publication's claim about itself; no independent source for the date could be retrieved for this page, and the year is not adopted here.[8]
The dated record available is of the output itself. The Deportes desk's reporting on the AUF television tender runs from 27 November 2025 through to 22 December 2025, and the section index was live and carrying dated items when read on 23 September 2026.[3][1][2]
Why does Búsqueda matter in Uruguay's sport?
It matters because its Deportes desk published the lot-by-lot outcome of the tender that determines how Uruguayan football is distributed from 2026 to 2029, with an annual value against each lot: cable television to DirecTV and Torneos y Competencias at US$ 31.8 million a year, streaming retained by Tenfield at US$ 17.5 million, technical production to Tenfield at over US$ 6 million, advertising, sponsorship and merchandising to Tenfield at US$ 8 million, international transmissions to Team Click at US$ 3.1 million, the live and data feed to Mediapro at US$ 3 million, and amateur competitions together with the Copa Uruguay to Telecom and GMC Conosur at US$ 2.2 million.[1] The same report recorded that clubs had asked for payment before 31 January 2026.[1]
Those figures were reported alongside, and independently of, the parallel accounts published by El Observador on 9 December 2025 and by Montevideo Portal on 3 December 2025, which is why this page can give the process rather than a single outlet's version of it.[5][6]
On ownership and concentration, OBSERVACOM's study En pocas manos, reported on 10 December 2017, examines “los tres grandes grupos mediáticos del país formados en torno a los canales de TV comerciales de Montevideo”, naming the Villar/De Feo, Romay and Cardoso/Scheck groups, and also reports concentration cases in Durazno, Lavalleja and Rocha.[7] The quoted passage concerns television groups and does not name this publication.[7]
