What is bTV Спорт?
bTV Спорт is the sports service of bTV Media Group, published at btvsport.bg. Its own footer identifies it as part of the bTV media group and carries a 2026 copyright line.[1] It describes itself as “твоят спортен портал”, your sports portal.[1]
The group behind it is a commercial broadcaster. In an interview published on 1 April 2022, bTV Media Group set out that it operates six television channels — “bTV, bTV Cinema, bTV Action, bTV Lady, bTV Comedy and RING” — together with eight websites, the VOYO.BG digital platform and a radio subsidiary, and gave 2020 revenue of BGN 132.3 million and 514 employees.[4] RING is the group’s sport channel.[3]
Ownership has a dated instrument behind it. On 7 October 2020 the European Commission cleared PPF Group’s acquisition of Central European Media Enterprises, a transaction that carried with it the Bulgarian bTV group and named its six channels, “bTV, bTV Cinema, bTV Comedy, bTV Action, bTV Lady and Ring”; the Commission approved it unconditionally, concluding that it raised no competition concerns in the European Economic Area, and the deal was expected to close on 13 October 2020.[3] The group itself put the package price at USD 2.1 billion.[4]
What does bTV Спорт cover?
The site states that it carries “всичко най-интересно от света на българския и световния спорт” — Bulgarian and world sport — and organises that output into football for Bulgaria and abroad, basketball, volleyball and tennis, with live results and statistics, video, interviews and match analysis.[1]
It also files retrospective and explanatory pieces on the national sporting record. One such piece assembles the dated doping episodes in Bulgarian sport, recording that eleven members of the national squads returned positive tests on 27 June 2008 and that on 28 June the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation announced that it would withdraw its team from the Beijing Olympic Games, and setting out the 2000, 2004 and 2015 episodes separately alongside it.[2] That material is the site’s reporting and is attributed to it; the general mechanism sits at anti-doping.
No inference about the service’s remit is drawn here from a single day’s front page; the description above follows its permanent section structure and its own statement of scope.[1]
How large is bTV Спорт's audience?
No audited audience measurement for btvsport.bg could be retrieved, and no traffic figure is given here. Commercial traffic estimators are not audited measurement and are not used.
The group does not publish an audience figure in the material retrieved either: its April 2022 account of itself gives revenue and headcount rather than ratings, and cites no measurement provider.[4] For internet audience in Bulgaria, Gemius is the provider named in published Bulgarian reporting of sports-site rankings, but the figures available in that reporting date from July 2015 and do not cover this site.[6]
What can be stated with a date attached is commercial scale at group level: BGN 132.3 million of revenue in 2020 and 514 employees, both as the group stated them in April 2022, and a transaction value of USD 2.1 billion for the wider CME package at the end of 2020.[4] Those are the company’s figures, reported as such.
Since when has bTV Спорт existed?
A founding date for the btvsport.bg service could not be established from a primary source and none is given. The site’s own footer carries only a current copyright year.[1]
What is dated is the ownership history of the group that publishes it. PPF Group’s acquisition of Central European Media Enterprises, which carried bTV and its six channels, was cleared by the European Commission on 7 October 2020 and was expected to close on 13 October 2020.[3] The group described the purchase as having taken place at the end of 2020.[4] Acquisition, founding and rebranding are different events and only the first is dated here.
Why does bTV Спорт matter in Bulgaria's sport?
It is the sports service of a group that also runs a dedicated sport television channel, RING, within a six-channel portfolio, which places its written output alongside broadcast rather than separate from it.[3][4] Its section structure spans the four team and individual sports with the largest domestic followings on the site’s own arrangement of its coverage.[1]
Reporters Without Borders places Bulgaria 71st of 180 countries with a score of 60.28 in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index and states that “the independence of privately owned media is threatened by their owners’ interests in other regulated sectors”.[5] That characterisation is the organisation’s and is quoted here rather than adopted; it is the background against which a commercially owned broadcaster’s sports service operates.
