What is blue Sport?

blue Sport is Swisscom's subscription sports television service. Its announcement of 14 May 2024, published on blueplus.ch, states: “Alle Partien gibt es jedoch nur im blue Sport Abo zu sehen – diese stehen via blue TV App in vollem Umfang auch für die Kunden anderer Provider zur Verfügung.” That is, every match requires a blue Sport subscription, available through the blue TV app to customers of other providers too.[1] Swisscom's own release of the same date states: “Customers of other providers can access the matches via the blue TV app.” It quotes Cyril Wick as CEO of blue Entertainment Ltd.[2]

Swisscom is majority-owned by the state. The federal department UVEK states, on a page published on 13 August 2025: “Der Bund hält 51 Prozent des Aktienkapitals und damit wie gesetzlich vorgeschrieben die Mehrheit am Unternehmen.” It describes Swisscom in law as a “spezialgesetzliche Aktiengesellschaft”.[5]

What does blue Sport cover?

Swiss football. Swisscom announced on 14 May 2024 that blue Sport had acquired all matches of the Super League and the Challenge League for five seasons, from summer 2025 to 2029/30, with coverage “in German, French and Italian with studio production in Volketswil and Granges-Paccot and live broadcasts direct from the Swiss football stadiums”. It stated that one Super League match per round would air free on SRG channels and that top Challenge League matches would appear on blue Zoom.[2] The SRG's release of the same day describes the same agreement between the Swiss Football League, the SRG and blue Sport, under which the SRG shows “ein Spiel pro Runde der höchsten Schweizer Liga im Männerfussball live”.[3]

European club football. A blue News article headed “Die Champions League bleibt bei blue Sport”, undated as retrieved, states that blue Sport “zeigt alle Spiele weiterhin vollumfänglich live und exklusiv” through the 2030/31 season. It states that from the 2027/28 cycle “Für die UEFA Europa League und die UEFA Conference League liegen die Übertragungsrechte künftig bei anderen Anbietern.”[4] That is the article's account; no statement by UEFA on the award was retrieved.

The wider offer. blue's release of 17 July 2025, before the first season of the new rights period, states: “Nur blue Sport überträgt die komplette höchste Fussballliga im eigenen Land in UHD HDR.” It announces commentary on all Super League matches in German, French and Italian, and says that the opening match, FC Zürich against FC Sion on 25 July, would be free on blue Zoom. It states that until then only two Super League matches per round had been produced in that format. It lists LALIGA, the Premier League and the UEFA club competitions in its portfolio and speaks of about “2'500 Live-Events pro Jahr”; those are blue's own figures.[7]

How large is blue Sport's audience?

No audited audience or subscriber figure for blue Sport was retrieved. Swisscom's and blue's releases of 14 May 2024 give none, and the blue News article on the Champions League gives none.[1][2][4]

The measured figures available concern what blue Sport carries. The Swiss Football League reported on 19 May 2026 that its 22 clubs recorded 3,105,264 stadium visits in the 2025/26 season, the first season of the rights period, and that the Brack Super League averaged 12,331 spectators per match.[6] Those are stadium figures, not television audiences.

Since when has blue Sport existed?

No founding date for blue Sport was retrieved from Swisscom's or blue's pages. blue's release of 14 May 2024 states that blue Sport “sichert sich erneut die Übertragungsrechte an den Schweizer Fussballligen für fünf Jahre bis 2029/30”, and Swisscom quotes Dirk Wierzbitzki, Head of Residential Customers and a member of its Group Executive Board, as saying that the company was “proud that blue Sport can continue broadcasting all matches from the top two tiers”. Both statements presuppose that blue Sport held those rights before 2025, without dating the start.[1][2] The blue News article on the Champions League states: “Seit 2018 bringt blue Sport die Faszination der Königsklasse direkt zu den Fans in der Schweiz”. That is the article's account of the Champions League rights, not a founding date.[4]

The ownership statement is dated: UVEK's page of 13 August 2025 gives the Confederation 51 per cent of Swisscom.[5]

Why does blue Sport matter in Switzerland's sport?

blue Sport is the holder of every live match of the two top Swiss football divisions for 2025/26 to 2029/30, with the SRG's free match per round and blue Zoom's Challenge League matches as the other outlets named in the agreement. The SRG's release adds that the SRG itself produces two Super League matches and one Challenge League match per round.[2][3] By the blue News article's account, it also holds the Champions League to 2030/31.[4]

Its parent, Swisscom, is a company in which the Confederation holds the legally required majority.[5] Swisscom's release quotes Cyril Wick, CEO of blue Entertainment Ltd: “We look forward to offering even more football on blue TV and to continuing the success story in the coming years.” That is the company's own statement.[2]
