What is Blick?
Blick is a daily newspaper and news site. Its impressum on 26 September 2026 names the publisher as Ringier AG, Ringier Medien Schweiz, Brühlstrasse 5, 4800 Zofingen, with the editorial address at Dufourstrasse 23, 8008 Zürich, and lists a separate newsroom for Blick Romandie at Avenue Rumine 20 in Lausanne.[1]
Ringier's announcement of 27 September 2023 states that it acquired all shares in the former Swiss joint venture Ringier Axel Springer Schweiz from Axel Springer, and adds: “Die traditionsreichen Schweizer Magazin- und Zeitschriftentitel werden unter dem Dach «Ringier Medien Schweiz» mit der Blick-Gruppe und der Vermarktungsfirma Ringier Advertising zusammengefasst.” The announcement gave closing as expected in 2023, subject to the competition authority WEKO.[4] Ringier's page for the unit, modified on 5 May 2026, lists Blick among its brands and states that “Mehr als 4,6 Millionen Leser/innen nutzen und vertrauen den Medienmarken von RMS”; that is Ringier's own figure.[5]
The most recent statement retrieved on Ringier's shareholders is its release of 13 April 2022, which refers to “der Beteiligung der Mobiliar mit 25 Prozent an der Ringier im Februar 2020”, the insurer's stake, and states: “Die Familie Ringier hält gemeinsam mit CEO Marc Walder die Mehrheit an der Ringier Gruppe mit einem Anteil von insgesamt 75 Prozent.”[6] No later statement of the shareholding was retrieved, so that is the position as Ringier described it in 2022.
What does Blick cover?
Blick's sport section on 26 September 2026 listed Fussball, Eishockey, Formel 1, Tennis, Ski, Schwingen, Handball and Leichtathletik in its navigation.[2] Schwingen has its own heading there beside football and ice hockey.
Blick publishes in two languages. Ringier's history states: “Am 1. Juni 2021 lancierte die Blick-Gruppe ihr neues Online-Angebot in der Westschweiz.”[3] The impressum names a separate editor-in-chief and newsroom for Blick Romandie in Lausanne.[1]
Ringier's history also records that on 17 February 2020 “startet die Blick-Gruppe mit dem ersten digitalen Sender der Schweiz”, a claim that is Ringier's own.[3]
How large is Blick’s audience?
Press readership in Switzerland is measured by WEMF AG für Werbemedienforschung in its MACH Basic study, which appears twice a year. The persoenlich.com trade site reported on 14 April 2026, from MACH Basic 2026-1: “Mit 300'000 Leserinnen und Lesern pro Ausgabe steigert der Blick nicht nur seine Leserschaftszahlen, sondern ist ab sofort wieder die grösste Tageszeitung der Schweiz.” It adds that Blick overtook the Tages-Anzeiger, “der auf 288'000 zurückfällt”, and gives the Neue Zürcher Zeitung 230,000. It names the weekend edition Schweiz am Wochenende, with 1,034,000 readers, as the most-read print publication in German-speaking Switzerland. The figures are WEMF's as persoenlich.com reported them, and the ranking is persoenlich.com's. That is one survey edition's reading.[7]
The Medienmonitor Schweiz, a Publicom study commissioned by the Federal Office of Communications, gives Blick a Meinungsmacht index of 15.19 in German-speaking Switzerland and 11.86 nationally, in figures labelled Publicom 2025. The index is the study's own construction and is not a readership figure.[8]
Since when has Blick existed?
Ringier dates Blick to 1959. Its history states: “Nach dem Motto «Du darfst alles ausser langweilen» erscheint der Blick zum ersten Mal im Jahr 1959.” It records that “Der SonntagsBlick erscheint zum ersten Mal” in 1969, which it calls the first Sunday newspaper in Switzerland, and that Blick online started in 1996.[3] Those dates are Ringier's own account.
Ringier dates itself to 1833, when “Der Pfarrersohn Johann Rudolf Ringier kauft 1833 in Zofingen eine Buchdruckerei.” The title of the same history page refers to growth “seit 1883”. The page prints both years.[3]
Why does Blick matter in Switzerland's sport?
Blick is a daily with a French-language online offer as well as a German one, and its sport section gives Schwingen its own heading beside football, ice hockey, Formula 1, tennis, skiing, handball and athletics.[2][3] In the MACH Basic 2026-1 readership data, as persoenlich.com reported them, it had 300,000 readers per edition.[7]
Reporters Without Borders, in its 2026 index, writes of the Swiss press that “Media concentration and the trend of downsizing editorial staff have increased in recent years”, and that this particularly affects “local press, where several publications have disappeared or have been bought by the large press groups that dominate the market”. Those are RSF's words, and RSF does not name Ringier in the passage.[9]
